X5000 not booting
Just popping in

See User information
Well my X5000 seems to have given up the ghost. I have written before about strange gremlins. I turned it off the other day as the case fan was rattling so needed a change out.

Changed fan booted fine started messing with it and it locked up. Hmmm... rebooted locked up again. Rebooted nothing. Hard power down. Nothing..

Debug output is...

Serial says memory error.

I'd try to remove both memory sticks and put them back in, one, than the other, and see if one of them were bricked (hopefully not both)

X1000 says insufficient RAM sometimes if a SATA lead is bad/loose. Try reseating them. Also replace your CMOS battery, A-Ones are notorious for being flakey with bad batteries.

I had the exact same issue. It wasnothing to do with the RAM (mine says the same as yours), its to do with what the Bios is doing next.

It will either be a power issue (PSU 12v ATX connector not plugged in correctly) or more likely the CR2032 battery (if charged) is not 100% in the correct place.

I think you are on to something with the battery, as I had previous post about clock not working. I had done a test to find that with hard power offs the clock just resets so clearly that battery is dead. My understanding though is the battery should not be required to boot as time is just set as part of startup over the net.

But I will try replacing the battery on my way home pick up new one. I was excited for the quiet with the new fan. The is definitely finicky hardware. Seems lots of reports now after a few years in wild X5000 exhibit strange booting problems. Be nice if we can document all the weird causes.

Ill fill in thread if I get her up and running.

Thanks
Doug

Thanks for inputs, she is booting and running again.

So...
@Derf - replaced battery no joy.

@Raziel - memory is lottery winner, I pulled the sticks and reseated one and it boots. Not sure if it is really memory or something else. For now just leaving one stick in as I don't want to look at it funny 😂

@All
The RTC does not work at all. After booting successfully tried some tests. Powered down power supply and board reboot date-time resets. Set the date with our friend Date and Setclock Save power down machine but don't power down supply the board time is saved in RTC life is good. If machine is unplugged no joy.

So the battery is just not running the clock. I will be honest I am not sure it ever has worked correctly, with my numerous posts about date/time issues. I can live with that as I use net time to sync on boot.

I do really appreciate this forum for all of you who chime in to always help with no toxicity that I see in other Amiga forums!

Regards
Doug

Yeah would bet on the battery, had that happened to me once on my XE.
If not, SATA cables is the next suspect, got myself SATA cables with locking clips when I built my X5000.

Hope you find the problem and everything works out ok.

Edit Sorry missed your reply above, great to hear that she's booting up again!

I only hope that there is no hardware bug on the second ram bank...maybe its "just" the other ram stick.

Anyway, I had and still have problems with interweaving between ram sticks when using more than two sticks on the nemo.
Seems that was never properly tested and the firmware lacks proper support.
