Some people are buying AmigaOS4 versions simply to fund future development, even if they can't use it themselves (maybe giving it away later as a present to devs-to-be)
I guess what he wanted to know is, if money from the classic version sales will also go back into funding future AmigaOS4 version or if it will be used to pay off other items on Ben's list...like, henchman, hitman, lawyers, ivory backscratchers for Ben, that sort of stuff...
Since returning back to Amiga in 2006, I have actively sought to support devs by buying original. With 3.2 I feel that is pointless as there is zero chance of the profits being reinvested into the AmigaOS universe.
According to the devs, the money gets invested back into the OS, and buying it is a show of support and increases the chances development will continue. The devs might not directly see any of the money, but they didn't go into this without knowing that.
Quite frankly, BH historic shady dealings do not deserve the validation brought by the hard work of the Amiga devs. He absolutely does not deserve to profit from it. Regarding distributors, BH was carefully keeping control of that too - for a while, he was the only source.
Seems like we’re a bunch of beaten dogs that keep returning to our abuser for scraps.
That's obviously up to you if you don't want to buy it, but I would definitely say to buy it if you want it. About half an hour into walkero's stream you can hear the justification from the devs for buying it to support them, I'd suggest to listen to that answer at least.
You can't buy 4.1 for X5000. It would be nice with an online purchase. This is only available for classic version. I paid for over 10 copies of digital classic version. That's why i asked. So it wouls be nice to know if the money goes back into more development. This is how it works with the new radeon drivers. That's why i paid for over 10 copies of that aswell. My way of supporting the community.
Thanks for setting up the presentation, it was interesting and educational. More kudos to you for providing recordings after the show was over as I missed the beginning and the end due to the usual weekend obligations. Thank you!
Thank you guys for your kind words. This Friday at 5:30 CET I will do one more where I will show and discuss with viewers what can we do after the first install. Utilities that might me useful to install, and how we can bring UnArc or AmiDock to AmigaOS 3.2.
Have in mind that my plan is to switch to AmigaOS 4 sooner or later, showing how close both operating systems are and why AmigaOS 4 is the best NG system. This is something I was thinking a lot to do for a long time. Would that be interesting for you?
But I am not a streamer and I need to time to get to a good state and also build a community of people who are going to watch those streams, because I rely a lot on feedback and discussion. I don't want to do just tutorial videos.
I will try to standardize the streams on every Friday same day, so that people know when and where. We will see how it goes.
I would be absolutely interested in after the install presentation and especially in AmigaOS4 and comparison.
As a part of the Amigos Retro Gaming discord, I will provide your stream schedule there and try to raise awareness, lots of EU based members there.
If you eventually decide this is the thing, it would be awesome if you can provide more AmigaOS4 content, even if only tutorials because this is something what is lacking for NG systems.
