X5000 not powering up (Solved)

Hi all,

I don't get to use my X5000 much these days, and I went to switch it on today but wouldn't power up. I have 1 green and 1 red LED on the motherboard (which, iirc, is usual). When I power on, everything comes on for less than a second and then dies.

Any suggestions? Maybe power supply?

Not sure if it is a coincidence or not, but now all three computers in this room have suffered power problems - both my Windows laptop and work laptop have had swollen batteries in the last month.

Sounds like a power supply issue.

You must don't be afraid if you.I have an X5000 that it has some similar issues since I ckecked on 2019.The mayor problem is that when I try to power on as,on the first attempt it powers on but then unecpectedly it powers off automatically.

That's not a mayor problem (yes ankward issue) bacause at second chance then it boots well.

Has anyone similar messages/behaviours on yours machine?

I want our machines power on at first attempt,at least mine

Try replacing the battery first. I've heard about similar issue on an X1000.
If that doesn't help, remove everything and try again.

May change my battery too so the X5000 could power on and boot correctly?

Remember that I have to push the button on 2 different instances.

And I want to add that before it powers off on first push the time it last until off is of 3 seconds.

You could try to:
Unplug the powercord... then press the powerbutton...
Put the powercord back into the powersupply and try to power it on.

When I got my X1000 it had a battery holder solder to the motherboard, like they all do. The problem was, the positive metal holder: the thing that also pushes the battery against the negative base, was broken. I had to solder in a new battery holder and remove the broken one. I put in a new battery and all of the very strange issues with booting were gone.

Before I fixed it, the machine would sometimes not even power on when I pressed the switch. I had to wait for a while before it worked.

So, check the battery for sure, but if you can, make sure that there is a good conductive contact for the positive and negative points on the battery.

If that's not it, then I guess I would check the PSU.

It can be a problem with your microsd card that contains the uboot.
The x5000 will power off almost instantly if it can not read the card.
So you can try to unplug the card and stick it back in again or try another card.

Well this is weird.

I unplugged everything and removed the case side panel to take a look at the motherboard.

I wanted to see what the LEDs were doing, so I plugged just the power in and pushed the button.

And it powered up.

So i switched it off, plugged everything back and tried again.

But no, still won't power.

I replaced the battery. Machine powered up but stuck on the boot splashscreen (Amiga X5000). Reset and it booted finally.

Will see how it goes...

Argh, back to not powering on again. Will try and check the SD card.

My problem is similar as yours:Mine is that I have to power up 2 times and I feel happy with it,because it has (as yours) probably I think a battery problem.

Check out the battery inside the tower and then you can tell me later.

I think you must replace it for a new battery insigne one that gives enough battery or power to the motherboard

How old is your AmigaOne X5000?

Mine is now 5 years old,since the year of 2017 I have it here.

Must think about my problem too whenever I can improve it surely.

I think that with all the help of this Amiga community we will help you in this bit annoting issue.So I expect.

On the kast years,when I had my AmigaOne XE I suffered and had to replace the battery several times a lot of times.

Then remove everything again. This time, if it starts. Add one thing at a time. Maybe there is a trouble card somewhere. Hopefully easier to spot the problem, instead of inserting everything at once.
Remove the power cable from the psu. When the board is stripped, remove the psu cable to the motherboard. And reinstall it again. Then check the motherboard lights before turning it on.

Thanks, did a strip down and re-plug the cables and all seems to be good now; was powered on and stayed on for over 24 hours, and then restarted fine.

I suspect that, when I had to replace the dead DVD drive before Christmas, I knocked the motherboard power out so it was only making partial contact.
