Edit: I know, I submitted under "OS4 Hardware" forum, and it is not... Let's call it "a hope" ;?) Anyway, moderators feel free to move it to a more appropiate forum.

Support Amiga Fantasy cases!!!
How to program: 1. Start with lots and lots of 0's. 10. Add 1's, liberally.

I remember that Acube was planning to get CRUX Linux running on Samantha. They have supplied a board to the PPC Linux team so that they can work on it.

This sounds promising. It would be really nice if they could release Amiga OS4 for this board at the same time. However, we'll just have to wait and see.

Except for the two spelling mistakes:

1. You write months like September with capital letters!
2. It's setups not setup, because it is plural!

Maybe it is also better to write "a complete system", instead of "one complete system", but I am not sure.

By Chris de Burgh
Album: "Into The Light" - 1986
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I've never seen you looking so lovely as you did tonight,
I've never seen you shine so bright,
I've never seen so many men ask you if you wanted to dance,
They're looking for a little romance, given half a chance,
And I have never seen that dress you're wearing,
Or the highlights in your hair that catch your eyes,
I have been blind;

The lady in red is dancing with me, cheek to cheek,
There's nobody here, it's just you and me,
It's where I want to be,
But I hardly know this beauty by my side,
I'll never forget the way you look tonight;

I've never seen you looking so gorgeous as you did tonight,
I've never seen you shine so bright, you were amazing,
I've never seen so many people want to be there by your side,
And when you turned to me and smiled, it took my breath away,
And I have never had such a feeling,
Such a feeling of complete and utter love, as I do tonight;

The lady in red is dancing with me, cheek to cheek,
There's nobody here, it's just you and me,
It's where I want to be,
But I hardly know this beauty by my side,
I'll never forget the way you look tonight;

I never will forget the way you look tonight...
The lady in red, the lady in red,
The lady in red, my lady in red,

I love you...

I want one.

I already have an AOS 4 machine which fine but I still want one!

I'm thinking a fanless PSU and one of those spangly new Solid State hard disks. Utter silence! Mmm.....

Oh yes..... :)

At the moment the Samantha is not an AOS 4 machine yet. It isn't sure if it will ever become one. Not at all.

Personally I dont like their hinting games too much. The red one, delivering the promises, etc...
If it will be released with OS4, then they should say so! If it can't because of the lawsuit, then they should stop with the teasing. Otherwise many will start hoping again, but then Amiga Inc wins the trial case. It is not THAT unrealisitic that they win and in that case I dont think there will be OS4 for Samantha. I hope that noone will buy it only because they think they will run OS4 on it. This might never be the case and then the peoples will be angry.

Obviously, you'd be daft to buy it just in case it ran OS4.

But it's so clearly meant for OS4, that's how everyone's going to treat it. Otherwise why else would they advertise it to Amiga people and even include dumps of UBoot?

There are two options:
1) It's an AOS 4 machine and it'll sell quite nicely (relatively speaking)
2) It's another faceless mobo that runs Linux like any other machine, except slower and more expensive, and it'll hardly sell any at all.

Of course buying on the grounds that it should be OS4 compatible would indeed be a bit daft, but that's clearly what it intends to be, so no harm in looking forward to it!

Because the makers are Amiga fans! But they have always said that their primary target market are industrial clients who will use it for embedded applications! The Amiga part comes as a nice bonus. First it didn't go well with McEwen, he announced it but then stepped back and now they get a second chance and can only hope that Hyperion wins the lawsuit.

I don't think this is true. Why do you think they have said that the first production run is meant for industrial clients if it'll "hardly sell any at all"? Be realistic, the market is much bigger than a few hundred mainboards they can sell to Amiga users.
Of course, there wont be much hobby users that will buy it for Linux. Otherwise other PPC hardware, like the one from Genesi, would be a big hit which isnt the case! For example I cant imagine why anybody would buy Genesi hardware to run Linux PPC. This is the same with Samantha.

BUT: ACube has said they are looking for customers in the industry. They have already presented this mainboard on a fair in Munich! So you are wrong, I think Amiga is only a bonus, if it happens at all, their main buyers are elsewhere.

Maybe you're right....

But I definitely think they're aiming to be a large fish in a small pond rather than a small fish in a large pond.
I would imagine the industrial side is more a contingency - hedging their bets, in other words.

Of course, I could be quite wrong, but... we shall see.

You can read a bit more about this topic from the Codex Alpe Adria report from Varthall:

Other planned OSes are FreeBSD, an AROS bounty has been opened but not assigned yet, while there have been some informal contacts with the MorphOS team, although nothing has been decided yet.

As regards the comment on AROS see this thread

I know they contributed to bounties already, being SAM440 one of them.. and not a small amount

Note also "Crux linux", since Crux PPC GNU/Linux team is also scheduled to be present at Pianeta Amiga with ACube Systems Srl:

You may be right, but I think their ultimate intention is to supply it with OS4. If not, what's the point of make its public presentation as an end-user board at PianetaAMIGA? There's no point in presenting/selling another multi-OS -but OS4- board preciselly at an Amiga meeting, so I really hope OS4 will, if not now later, be supplied with it.

Of course it is for running Amiga OS 4.0. Alas, it seems those in positions of power are not allowing that. Until Amiga Inc. and Hyperion work things out I expect nothing is going to happen. So until I see a joint announcement from those two I would expect absolutely nothing from ACube or anybody else running or attempting to run Amiga OS 4.0.
