Update: Since I've renamed SYS:Documentation/ReleaseInfo to SYS:Documentation/ReleaseNotes I notice that the WB Help tool now allows the release notes to be displayed, in addition to the help documentation. Another feature I didn't know existed, though it's somewhat documented on the wiki (which mentions release notes, but doesn't say where it looks for them).

Hi, I just found out that an update to newlib was released in April this year (version 53.80) and realize that AmiUpdate didn't do this update for me.

I've had trouble logging into update.amigaos.net in the past. My password did not pass. So I was advised to check amiupdate.codebench.co.uk in AmiUpdate and it worked.

This is apparently no longer the case, at least as far as newlib is concerned. Have you noticed the same thing? Am I alone in this case?

I have problems on X1000 with new newlib from Amiupdate:

- libc.so v 53.80 + newlib.library.kmod v 53.80 crashed - i.e. breaks after loading cca 90% of kernel modules ( info from botton red stripe, have not serial debug )

- if I revert to older libc.so v.53.61 + newlib.libraty.kmod v 53.62 all works OK.

do you have any ideas?

Newlib is a system component, part of OS4, and should be offered to you through the update.amigaos.net server.

Of course provided you have given it the right credentials. These should be the same as the ones you use to log in on the hyperion-entertainment.com page e.g. to view your registration details for OS 4.1 Final Edition. And of course you also need to have this version registered there to get access to the update at all. You probably also need to have it updated to Update 2 first.

Are you saying it fails on early boot or when the system tries to boot to OS4? If you had a serial output that would help to get some info.

Is it possible to hang when it boots into OS4, because of apps starting on boot?

Indeed, when I check on the Hyperion site, I see that Update 2 has not been registered... I am surprised that it has not been done. Usually, I carefully note this kind of information. But among my registration keys, I do not have the one for 2021.

However, when I look on the selection menu for the products to register, there is nowhere the possibility of registering Update 2.

When I connect to update.amigaos.net to do the update, i.e. with the same password as on the Hyperion site which works well, AmiUpdate seems to do a search on the server, but returns nothing, neither result nor error. Is it possible to produce a processing log?

Here is the verbose log when connecting to AmiUpdate. It can be seen that the connection on update.amigaos.net does not work, while it does not cause any problem on the website.

My password is complex and has 32 characters. I wonder if there would not be a restriction on the length of passwords via the connection from the X5000...

Create one with your username and password and place it in SYS: (and try again)

EDIT: looking/hexediting inside AmiUpdate executable there is only "PROGDIR:SiteList".

Yes, maybe it was an oversight from an earlier AmiUpdate version...the password in SYS:SiteList was mighty old

Good news: the connection to AmiUpdate works!

My experience on this subject makes it possible to conclude two points:

1 - It is essential to have the SiteList text file containing the username and password to the Hyperion server under SYS:System/AmiUpdate.

2 - Despite the presence of the SiteList file, AmiUpdate still requires the user name and password to be entered in a request window, but executes the update well.

There are obviously logical malfunctions that weaken the update process, but above all, saving the connection parameters in plain text in a text file presents, in my opinion, a huge security flaw. It seems urgent to me, more urgent than all the other improvements, whatever they are, to secure this update.
