So I have this AmigaOne XE with a 7457 @ 1Ghz that I want to mod to house a 7448 rated @ 1.7Ghz with an adapter bord. Aside from the clockspeed increase, the 7448 also has 1MiB of L2 cache, 4 times the amount of a 7450/7455 found in stock machines.
I think it'll be fun to make a video with the before and after mod benchmarks which I'll upload to my Youtube channel.
Some games too, could be interesting since the r200 driver doesn't take advantage of the card's hardware transform lighting and clipping engine and is instead done on the CPU..
Quake 1 Software and OpenGL rendered (320x256/640x480/1024x768/1600x1200)
IOQuake3 r3 from HunoPPC (640x480 + 1024x768)
Return to Castle Wolfenstein (MiniGL) (640x480 + 1024x768)
Anymore suggestions? like do you guys have your own encoding benchmarks here or such?
As a refresher, Radeon 9250 here, no Nova/GLES2 compatibility but Warp3D and MiniGL are ok.
It will take a while before the mod is finished, the biggest hurdel now is that the resistor for the 5TH PLL needs to be removed to reach higher clock multiplier settings, after it's located and removed it has to be shipped to the United States for the conversion.
I'd love to see how the demo Arte by Sanity runs in E-UAE after you've modded the AmigaOne XE. Sound stutters a lot on a Sam440 Flex, so wonder how it will perform on your setup. Thanks in advance.
Best of luck with the project! Looking forward to the videos.
very nice idea! I am interested in CPU modding. It will be fine, if you also post some photos and experience.
And regarding the gfx tests, I made this with Sam440ep-flex graphics cards: https://www.amigaportal.cz/node/149415 it is in Czech language, so google helps.
Btw I have bad experience with ragemem Videobus benchmark. It gives weird results, gfxbench2D is much better here.
AmigaOS3: Amiga 1200 AmigaOS4: Micro A1-C, AmigaOne XE, Pegasos II, Sam440ep, Sam440ep-flex, AmigaOne X1000 MorphOS: Efika 5200b, Pegasos I, Pegasos II, Powerbook, Mac Mini, iMac, Powermac Quad
That tests was for graphics experience. If I compared systems I use this:
RAM: stream VRAM + 2D: gfxbench2D CPU: Dhrystone1 ( no FPU, no VMX ), MFlops ( FPU ), lame ( all with VMX ) HDD: ScsiSpeed, DiskSpeed ( only average and max from Read, long alligned buffers) GFX drivers:Cow3D, MPlayer, SDLBench NET+HTML: TCPSpeed, wirple.com/bmark Games: GLQuake, ioQuake3, Tower57, 1941, WingsBattlefield - all this use diferrent gfx drivers and libraries. Than also RTCW. Emu: E-UAE ADoom, DOSBox Quake
for this I have results from my AmigaOS machines

P.S. and if you will have such great AmigaOne XE, I recommend also change graphics card to Radeon 9000PRO. It is fastest and additionally sometimes capable of overclocking.

I have a Aone XE with a 1267MHZ CPU clocked with 1533MHZ. It is not really fast as compare with an X1000 or X5000. Because, the speed is only in CPU and caches all other components are as slow as before. You have a 133MHZ FSB, Ram is not faster, AGP and so on. You only see a fast MIPs in a benchmark.
If you want a fast system, take a X1000 or X5000. It is felt many times faster.
@DrProton i haved made a FAQ in my home-forum for Aone SE, XE and micro. But it is in german. There are listed all Motherboard mods and so on. I made a multiplicator list and there is a photo from the 5th resistor.
thank you for info. I am thinking about registration there - in short time it is second case which is interested me. But my german is good for ordering the wine and beer only. And google translates from Czech language is very far from ideal.
About 7448. Don't know. If somebody used 7447 in AmigaOne XE, there is big chance it will works. It is nearly identical CPU. Other very similar microarchitectures are MPC7445, MPC7441 all developed from 7450. And AmigaOne has 7451 which also derives from 7450 but other way. So I wonder...
