SVG Datatype

Hi everyone,

i wanted to ask about how to use the svg datatype from OS4Depot.net

I installed it (like described in the readme) and iiuc it should work out of the box (after a reboot, maybe) with Multiview/Multiviewer?
Alas it does not...any SVG file is still load and displayed as ascii (if i drag and drop it into Multiviewer's window - Multiview simply says) and refused to loaded when i pick the file from an ASL requester or drop it into the Multiview window (Cannot load icon.svg)

I tried to add it to DefIcons, to no avail

Needless to say, the svg files work perfectly fine in Odyssey

Any hints on how i could achieve a system-wide svg datatype support?

Thank you

Which one? I would recommend mine: Https://www.unsatisfactorysoftware.co. ... nload.php?file=drawing_dt
The advantage of this is it renders the files as structured art. Disadvantage is you can't load into a pixel editor via the datatype.
If it won't recognise the file send it over to me on email and I'll look into it.

It works

But structured art is not really what i was looking for.
I was going for the original svg and how it was meant to look.

Well, seems i have to rely on converting the files to png

Thank you for the help though, appreciated

That is how it's meant to look - SVG is structured art! If you convert to PNG/bitmap you're losing information.

If the file isn't displaying correctly then that's a different matter and I'd like to look at the file (libsvgtiny isn't fully featured but should display most files correctly)

If you pm your email i can send you a few of the svgs.

You can compare them with how Odyssey displays them...they seem to lack a good amount of gradient in color and if i can tell correctly, even the form (cube, circle etc.) isn't 100% correct in the datatype display, but that might very well be my fleeting eyesight

Hmm, yes gradients might not work properly, would definitely be interested in checking them to see if it is something I can fix or just not supported by svgtiny. PM being sent.

resurrecting my thread

Is/would it (be) possible to have a system-wide .svg support for all the WB icons?

That way no different sized icons would be needed anymore because, because anyone could set their preferred icon size in WB prefs and won't loose focus, quality, detail and whatever else.

Just an idea

SVG support for icons is not 100% a bad idea but

detail

You would in fact lose the details of hand drawn pixel based icons as vector graphics is not suited to that, it's good at logos text and shape based gfx.

Compare dull android icons and emojis to the subtletiess of the icons sets create by Mason

A matter of taste though perhaps

Ah yes, i forgot about the limitations, though svgs with gradients do really look nice

I have no idea how to write a icon.library module, but it does have the facility for such a thing, so at least in theory it should be possible to write an SVG module for it.

Maybe Massimo could help as he is the guy that wrote the png module.
