Sam440ep-flex + 1 GbE ethernet NIC

Hi,

please, can somebody succseeds connect Sam440ep-flex with 1 GbE PCI card?
I tried three different PCI RTL8169 ( at least one of them works in AmigaOne X1000 ) and with no traffic.

I can select the driver, it is visible on Ranger, but IP is allways "Not configured".
Sometimes when I change something in Internet Prefs, it receive IP. But after reset allways the same - IP "Not configured"

Any idea? Sam have two free slots, so a little bit faster internet is pleasure.

If it shows up in Ranger and you can get a connection, even with losing it again, it isn't a hardware problem.

Use the one that works in the X1000.

How do you "select" the driver?
You have to have it in "Devs:Networks" (rtl8169.device)
It's getting picked up automatically.

Where do you get that "IP not configured"?
I can't see that in Ranger.

Do you see the "Network" tab in Ranger?
What do you have in the "Interfaces" tab there?
Is everything populated?
The only "Not configured" i get is with "Peer address" but that's "normal" i guess?

@Raziel:

thanks,
driver is rtl8169.device, selected first time automatically via Sys:internet/new connection and after that several times manually in Prefs:Internet.
Also once deleted file from Devs:NetInterfaces and make again via Prefs:Internet
IP (Host address)"Not configured" is in Ranger/Network interfaces - see bottom
Peer and broadcast addresses are also "Not configured"

That doesn't look suspicious so far, except Ranger output in Interfaces.
127.0.0.1 is localhost and is simply looping back to your machine.

I was never able to create a working internet setup with Internet Prefs or Dialer (it always errored out after some steps), so i instead manually added it.

Try the following (and if you can, share your DEVS:Networks/RTL8169 file)

In Devs:Networks
- Back up your RTL8169 file (move it to DEVS:)
- Add the following to a new file called "8169_Test" (or whatever)
# DEVS:NetInterfaces/8169_Test
device=rtl8169.device
hardwaretype
=Ethernet
configure
=dhcp
id
=xxx.xxx.xxx.x

The id should be your router address (the one that provides DNS).

Reboot and see if something changes

thank you, I will try the "id=", maybe it helps.

I was surprised, because even on AmigaOne XE it works OOTB. And XE is very picky with PCI cards.
And all my computers are in the same VLAN, on the same switch, connected to router ( which gaves DHCP responses )

no succes.
I tried also working card from A1 XE.
It received IP address but no traffic. I can ping only own address, and not ping others, even not my gateway.

All in log is OK, same as in Ranger.
In Router I see the lease also correctly.

And One more strange thing:
I can use both rtl8169.device:0 and rtl8169.device:1 with only single card! Strange!
With rtl8169.device:2 it generates error "canot open.." as expected.
But what about rtl8169.device:1 ???

Cannot be there some mismatch with Sam440 internal NICs? There are two, 0 and 1.

There are also nvenvars in Uboot:
ethaddr = MAC of sam unit 0
eth1addr= MAC of sam unit 1
ethact=ppc_4xx_eth0 ... what is it?
probably this is NIC what Uboot using. But can be it connected with AmigaOS selected NIC?

I have the same variables on sam440ep but i'm using the sam network card.

rtl8169.device of course don't use that variables and should be driven by roadshow.
Did you try with a static ip? I have some issues sometimes using DHCP. Try always a static ip first.

i'm really tired...

@afxgroup

yes, static have the same symptoms. Settings OK, no traffic.
I also tried setup with addnetinterface and many variations of config. Including the Filter param.
It works on XE and not on Sam. Very strange.

And the most strange is that with one PCI card I can use rtl8169.device:0 and rtl8169.device:1 with the same results.

I have no other ideas. Maybe inspect the packets by Wireshark.
Or I try to made point-point network with other comp to exclude some ARP issues.

No Sam440 1GbE user here?

P.S. I corrected the debug output above - is better readable now.
