Ok thanks.
My Sam460ex pciex1 slot seem to be damaged so have to use onboad sound . No problems with the RadeonRX options.

Also using a sound blaster audigy on the X5000 .

i see your using the rx550 its quiet a bit slower the the r9 270x and im using sata 3114 so could be the sound card makes a diffrence with the radeon driver.

Im not quiet sure thinking of getting RX 580 but waiting for the prices to drop.Even USB Bluray/DVD works fine But have to use independly powered Hub.Im quiet happy with the SAM its running really well and stable apart from Videoplayers.

What do you need to get a serial Log ouput on PC What type of cable serial to usb, and putty or what do you use for debugging the background output.

Thanks

The RX550 has been my main Sam460ex card since early 2020 .
Also using the same model in the X5000.
The 4k video playback capability and low power consumption are what I prefer. RadeonRX driver and Rx card Video playback Stable on both machines .

The RadeonHD 8570 cards I got just for testing the RadeonHD drivers . I was lucky that they work with the Sam460ex .
But at the price I got them at it was worth taking the chance .

Bought the RadeonHD v5.14 driver today on Amistore as I promised to do to support Hans work on the driver.

I have been using a Radeon RX580 while waiting for the RadeonHD driver to show up on Amistore.

First impressions with ASUS R9 280X -

720 videos works, 1080 videos no way.

MiniGL apps work as they should.

Quake 2, insane framerate ;)

Less noise in the speakers with the ASUS R9 280X(No noise with old driver) compared to RX580!

Don't know what is going on with the ASUS RX580,
have an ESI Juli@ soundcard and they don't play well togheter,
tried both the PCI and PCIe(thanks Raziel) cards.
Sounds like the graphicscard isn't properly grounded.

Any clues?

Edit: Found my balanced cables, going to flip my Juli@ to balanced out TRS 1/4" and try with that combo and report back.

Tried on X1000 with RadeonHD 5.12 with some HD card, and yes, all mp4 files of 1080 i tried just played slow or giving gray screen on both DvPlayer v54.9 and Emotion v1.9

CPU on the same time not busy, just around 4-13% , but video just slow. Like low Bandwitch or something.. On x5000 with RadeonRX everything of course fluid and not like this.

I also do check Serial output just in case there are some bugs thrown on when we play vids, and for example for "Big Bunny 1080 one.mp4" when it give me only gray screen, i have that:

Quote:

RadeonHD (0): Wait done 1150219 on ring 3 timed out. GPU busy

But when i reboot, and tried again the same video on Emotion firstly, without running DvPlayer : video plays, but plays slow, and this time i have on serial that:

Quote:

main thread: delay -2.466667...
VADecoder: i >= surfaceCount

So by all means, it all looks like bad bandwidth or something. Like it can, but something slow it all down.

For Emotion, if you want real speed, click outside of Emotion's window (on the WB for example).

Yeah, i tried it in first tests as well as read whole topic today , but while i can see that indeed, clicking outside add a lit of speed, it still, not fix jerky of the sound and even frameskip to "auto" didn't help.

It's just nowhere close with radeonrx on my x5000, where everything as should be..

I think it's all looks like just bandwidth issue. I mean, we do have those cases:

1). GPU can't copy with the video decoding
2). More or less modern games have total speed decrease when there many objects on screen
3). New one: when i run many opengl games at the same time (just for sake of stress test), in some situation it just almost completely freezes spawning on serial "GPU busy" errors and then start to act just like videos act when can't be played normally via VA libs.

Imho all of this just one single issue : problem with bandwidth, like, something make it all be slow on sending data to GPU, or handle it, or so.

With RadeonRX it happens too (problems with Bandwidth), just much less that with RadeonHD now.

Please, are there at least theoretic plan to release RadeonHD v.5 for Sam440ep-flex?

I have it ( together with DVPlayer and Emotion ) for my X1000 and it woks fine for HD videos, with low CPU utilization. But it is fair to tell that X1000 is powerfull enough to play HD videos on CPU only ( utilized upto 100% ) and for me gives a much more sense to have RadeonHD v.5 on Sam440ep-flex. On this machine for me also not works Polaris cards, so I should have HD7xxx.

I cannot imagine how complex is for example to modify Sam460ex version to Sam440 ( same core, different SoC components ), but if a betatester will be needed, one is here.

AmigaOS3: Amiga 1200
AmigaOS4: Micro A1-C, AmigaOne XE, Pegasos II, Sam440ep, Sam440ep-flex, AmigaOne X1000
MorphOS: Efika 5200b, Pegasos I, Pegasos II, Powerbook, Mac Mini, iMac, Powermac Quad

Yes, I posted videos showing exactly what you describe with Emotion : video is smooth but sound has hickups when the decoding process takes too much of the GPU power (or bandwidth as you seem to have found).

With DvPlayer, it's the contrary : video is not smooth but sound is ok (and DvPlayer handles very badly reading a video from HDD).

I wanted to demo Emotion on my X1000 with my Radeon HD and Radeon HD drriver v5 during the forthcoming MicroAlchimie but I fear I won't do since it's not exactly what we could call eyes-blowing at the moment (or I will just have to turn the sound off and hope that the GSOTD - Grey Screen Of The Death- doesn't show up ^^ ).

Hopefully things will improve with bug fixes.

As you may recall I tested a bug fixed debug version on Sam460ex.
No crashes with Warp3DNova stuff or video decoding.
So those issues resolved for Sam460ex at least.
Some audio issues but will see if they exist when
I get to test a non debug version .
Still no better performance with 1080p videos though.

Also we now have Kas1e equipped to do some hard beta testing
for X1000 .

Intersting that when i tried to play "prometheus-trailer.mp4" (that one which 1080p) , by both DvPlayer 54.9 and Emotion 1.9, i have that:

With DvPlayer never sound issues. And not video artifacts. But video not fluid, which mean that some frameskipping happens by default.

With Emotion : sound issues always here. Also if you choose frame skipping, you have lots of video artifacts together with sound issues. But if you disable frameskipping, then video start to be more fluid than in dvplayer, but still, with the same sound issues.

Plz check if you have same as me on this video:

See on video: https://youtu.be/PHf0iS3oYkg

Firstly DvPlayer, and after 1:00 Emotion. For emotion framskip is disable to avoid video artefacts. That the same for everyone ?

@ktadd
Do you use altive or non altivec MickJt player when testing with 5.14 ? Also on what video you do tests (so i can try with this one too). If you can bring plz the whole line to be sure that i use the same -vo and the same -ao as well. Thanks!

Just want to be able to reprodue it on the latest version of RadeonHD (we have some new betas for now), and if issue still here to report it.

Your are describing exactly what I have already described here : https://www.amigans.net/modules/newbb/ ... id=134397#forumpost134397

Did you read it ?

Did you see these videos I posted in which you can see what you are describing ?

https://video.amiga-ng.org/w/brSDvVv8tjJ6znCThsUd7i
https://video.amiga-ng.org/w/kgM94MRF2bngfizdiGrvBH

I have already made extensive tests (without being a beta tester so having paid for it even if the results are not worth the 53 Euros asked for it ATM) and concluded what you find "interesting" :)

If you have the same results with latest version of the driver, I'm afraid it won't be of any use neither :(

Yeah i read it and checked videos. First one indeed show something of that sort, just it's not _that_ bad as with prometheus-1080p. And second video almost good, but yeah, sound hickups as well.

For me even with 1080p videos in DvPlayer i have no sound hickups

Yes it's the same for me with 5.15 where were few fixes related to the sam460, no difference with 5.14 in that regard.

IMHO, our one possible solution there is additional work on Emotion to not have jerky sound and to have working frame skip without artifacts. At least if DvPlayer can cope with sound fine, than Emotion can do it as well.

I would gladly pay for an update of Emotion working flawlessly with Radeon HD Driver 5.x :)

@K-L:
Frank looked into your videos and it seems that the pictures does not come fast enough and emotion synchronizes sound and video and then we get som stuttering.

The other players which runs does this not. And wen you look into the other videos from the other players than you can see that the images does not synchronize. Look into Minute 2:50, the video runs but the sound is ready for a while... A video with talking people should show you more details. So other players seems that they don´t care about matching sound and video together and they may seem more seamless but it does not make sense if a video later ready as the voice ;)

DV Player seems to have an aggressive frameskipping, in Emotion this function is only for software encoder because in real live a hardware accellerated system don´t need such stuff, it should play it smooth.

We can not do much here, the HW acceleration on the new RadeonHD drivers does not work well, i think. Emotion runs well on RX cards, RadeonHD Cards are fast enough to handle the videos (maybe we should enable it for HW acceleration too but it is a workaround which does not make a smooth video).

If he has time, frank will update Emotion to a never version of ffmpeg but it we don´t think that we can see much improvements.

OK, I got some time to do some more extensive testing.
The problem is the video freezes when I use the new RadeonHD driver and play videos with MPlayer.
It happens with pretty much any video as far as I can tell.
Freeze does not occur with the older RadeonHD driver v3.7.

Here are the details:

Hardware: Amiga X1000 with 4G of memory and 2 1TB hard drives.
Graphics card: ASUS Radeon HD 7750
OS Details: AmigaOS4.1 Final Edition Update 2
Kernal: version 54.30
Enhancer: v2.2 Pretty much everything installed except Candy.
RadeonHD.chip: v5.14

MPlayer version: (altivec)
MickJT-MPlayer-1.0.1 1.3.0 (C) 2000-2016 MPlayer Team

MPlayer config file: Download Link

Video: Sintel(~85M) Download LInk

For testing I played the above video file nine times.
4 times from ram:
3 times from the 1TB SATA hard drive
2 times from a 30GB SSD drive in a case connected to USB.

I set the icon to play the video with MPlayer.
I double click the icon to start the video playing.
I leave the window at default position and size while playing.
Once video starts I press the 'O' key twice to show the OSD time.
Then I recorded the playback time at which the freeze occurs.

I have nothing else running, other then a few typical items in WB startup. Just the video playback freezes. The rest of the system works fine but I can't close MPlayer. Have to reboot to close MPlayer.

Here are the results of my testing: (video length is 14:48)

Run Device Freeze time
1. Ram: 3:14
2. Ram: 0:45
3. Ram: 1:42
4. Ram: 2:11
5. SATA HD 12:24
6. SATA HD 11:26
7. SATA HD 14:36
8. USB SSD 0:52
9. USB SSD No Freeze. Played all the way through.

The freeze seems to be easier to reproduce when the video is located on the Ram Disk.
Hope this helps someone to be able to reproduce it.
