I am really having a hard time sending this board back to France - my only option - as my 'Spidey Senses' say I'll never see it or anything again. It is too late to dispute the sale with my bank, I checked. What would you do? Would you send out your motherboard with only a promise that it will return someday?

Is the board still covered by warranty? I so then the dealer has a legal obligation to either return a repaired/replaced product, or return your money.

However, before you send out the board, make sure to make a thorough, close-up photographic documentation (confirming that you're sending the board in perfect physical condition) and send it to your dealer's official e-mail address. Just to be on the safe side. I remember reading a story in an Amiga forum where a user sent his X5000 for repairs, and after some time the dealer told him that "liquid and debris" had been found on the board, so they won't repair it. Unfortunately he didn't have any proof of having sent the board in perfect shape, so it was word against word.

If i was in position of dead motherboard, i never ever will send it to any amiga dealer does not matter which one. For the reasons that it will dead slow (years) and in end you with 50/50 that anything will be done. Most lucky the board will be taken as gift , and offered to buy new one with words your one is can't be fixed.

For myself i have 1-2 good electronic-mind friends, who have good skills, and they can repair stuff does not matter what is it. So better till death trying to fix stuff by yourself, maybe finding some specialists, etc, because sending to amiga-dealer broken stuff mean dead end most of time. Add economical and all that situation in whole world, and the fact that dealers will resend it to AEON (hello Amikit), and you will end up with better to have dead board in your own hands, in comapre with gifting it back.

But that of corse IMHO.

Both of you are describing some aspects of my experience.
However my motherboard was working when I received it .

Last week I received an offer for an upgrade to an X5000/40 board based on a credit for the damaged x5000/20 board which I have accepted.

I had received an initial offer for a discounted replacement for the original board in July 2019 which I had not taken up .
The original board purchased in July 2017 died in October 2018.

I looked at the pinouts for the 20 and 40 processors and it looks like a drop in replacement for the 20 with the 40 having functionality on previously dead pins.

Is it a simple CPU swap to upgrade to a 5040?

With X5000/40 not everything that good and clear as i can tell. From the tests i did on 3D front with few users who have 5040, it somehow strangely reacts worse than 5020 in terms of speed. Of course it can be some bad default misconfiguration or whatver, but there some issue for sure. I can't say more as didn't have one by hands, but will be intersting to have someone with skills to be able to do proper test and comparasion with 5020.

Be sure you use HDMI output (if you didn't). And you need to build serial and/or MCU cable for sure to know why there no signal. Firstly go with serial cable, there is big article i wrote about how to build it, how to use from today's PC, what settings set and where, etc, etc: https://wiki.amigaos.net/wiki/Advanced_Serial_Debugging_Guide

One you will made serial debugging working with this cable, we will see if motherboard throw anything on serial at all and based on that we will know how help futher.

In worse case if that will not help, then you will need to build MCU cable (you can read about it there: https://www.amigans.net/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=8449) and then we will know even more.

I guess right do so, if none warranty repair, however, I not sure shop should do repairs, unless they certified to do so, they can make it worse, if they don’t know what they are doing. (don't have the tools)

A bit more professionally company probably give you offer for a replacement mb, so you wont have to wait for it to get repaired.

On the other hand, if customer insist on getting same back, they need to wait.

Geez, here I was seriously considering an insane purchase priced board, but after reading this entire thread I think I'll rather wait for that dreamy Tabor or something new from Acube Systems.

Atleast AFAIk Acube systems did well for bringing not only some form of hardware line to Amiga OS4.x user base, but have generally been solid with testing as I hear it.

Well, I'm writing this on my old trusty sam flex, so, yeah, I'd say if anyone wishes to buy new old stock perhaps Acube System Motherboards or systems are the way to go?

Or the older x5000/20 boards maybe?

Its such a shame though.

Ouch, I was also seriously consdering to buy a X5040 mainboard. But a 3k doorstop doesn't really sound appealing. I wonder if those reported performance issues have been solved already.

My X5020 was also shipped as a bare mainboard. It has an unreliable SATA connector and somehow I cannot save the power pref for my RX card. I've also had some issues with the RTC in the past. But this could have been software related.
Other than that, the machine is fine.

Hi there,

mmm, sounds a bit more promising than this thread atleast, haha.

but they probably dont have any x5000/20 in stock I presume?

I'd buy from amigastore.eu or alinea computer.

Maybe even vesalia.

After this thread, I can confirm, even a simple cd32 controller from amikit hasnt arrived yet, but everything for europe germany seems quick and brisk, enough for me to warrant not using other shops that may be less reliable with bad packaging, to name a couple of things.

Alinena, amistore.eu and amiga-shop (also alinea) and in the past vesalia have always ensured a WELL PACKAGED item arrives at the door to try and save concern of something being broken.

My X5020 mainboard was actually bought directly from Amigakit. Right after brexit.

Once shipped from Amigakit, it took only a couple of days to clear customs and arrive at my home. Iirc it was wrapped in foam and bubble-wrap . Therefore the outer box didn't close well. But no visual damage to the package.

I purchased just a X5040 motherboard and memory from Amedia in May 2022 arriving in August 2022. I built the system myself and I have not had any weird issues with it.

I was also told that OS4.1 does not utilize the 4 cores of the 5040 processor. So it is basically a 5020 using only 2 cores.

This is probably something that you didn't want to hear. I feel sorry for the situation you are in. One thing Amedia kept hammering on me is that they would not stand by issues/conflicts I had becaue i did not purchase a complete system from them. Fortunely, I haven't had any issues yet with the x5040.

I have my new SAM460LE and in my opinion, the X5040 is a better performing machine. I haven't quite gotten all the bugs out of the Sam460LE.

I don't understand the politics why Amigakit or AEON are not selling the boards directly instead of going UK to France to USA. I have mentioned before that I have purchased orders from Amigakit and one took over a year to recieve and it was just common parts. They would not answer any of my emails or give me any updates during that time.

Amiga on the Lake told me that they cannot get any boards from Aeon. So either the boards are bad and selling refurbished boards or there is something up with the x5040. Amedia had to give me a special build of OS4.1 to make it work because the x5000 CD would not install without failing.
