I was trying AmiCygnix 1.7
with SSHTerm

i can log into ubuntu for example
i can use ffplay
but the video appears in the "ubuntu" window

how do I export the DISPLAY directly to AmiCygnix ?

there is something to configure in AmiCygnix

Thank you,

here is a small video that I made if it can be useful to explain myself better.

With classic ssh, it works this way:

on server /etc/ssh/sshd_config you need line: X11Forwarding yes

from client side you need to use parameter -X.
example: ssh -X 192.168.1.10 myprogram

this runs myprogram on 192.168.1.10, but video output will be on computer from you run ssh command.

But is possible, that SSHterm do not support -X option.
Look here https://www.heelpbook.net/2018/ssh-x-f ... ecure-alternative-to-vnc/ for example ( far down ).

@All

Thanks for the replies they were very helpful and kind
But I imagine that not having a real IP address with AmigaOS using for example WinUAE I can only use an emulated "network IP".
(ethernet)
I believe unfortunately there is no trick to overcome this.

And then bind the IP to the export DISPLAY

as happens instead to a real IP of an Amiga Machine.

Hi #?
For use remote application in AmiCygnix, you need follows this steps:
1 - Start AmiCygnix
2 - Start Tools -> Unix Shell
3 - In the shell write: xhost +
5 - Open a SSHTerm (http://os4depot.net/?function=showfil ... =network/misc/sshterm.lha)
6 - connect in your Linux OS
7 - write: export DISPLAY=<IP of your Amiga>:0.0
8 - write: xhost +
9 - write: firefox
enjoy it

Sorry for my little english

I succeeded, now I can get "AmiCygnix" to work with the DISPLAY export.

I had a question if it was possible to fix it.

all selected screenmode modes work
but on my emulation the fastest is "Cybergraphix"
I read in the "AmiCygnix" readme that it is obsolete.

I only have this problem if I use "Cybergraphix" the mouse pointer freezes and I can't move it anymore.
Once the "amiga shell" from "AmiCygnix" was launched.

I wanted to ask if I could somehow fix this problem by manually intervening on the "AmiCygnix" configuration.
The "AmiCygnix" screen is not blocked because if I press the keys at random the menus appear.
There is a key combination to acquire the "mouse" pointer. ?

Which file could I edit as an alternative to solve the problem?

Thanks for any help.

Here two screenshots with Ffplay and Firefox working regularly with the "Amiga" shell

This problem occurs only when I open the "amiga shell" or "unix shell" to use "export DISPLAY"
In practice, I lower the AmigaOS desktop and access the "AmiCygnix" Desktop and the cursor freezes.
If I use the desktop with "Cybergraphix" and use the applications, the cursor does not freeze and works perfectly.

There is some solution to open the shell directly on the Desktop of "AmiCygnix".

Thank you

It is not possible to open the shell on an AmiCygnix display that uses CyberGraphx. The window would destroy the content of the screen. Only the newer "...db" driver would work, but i wasn't able to open a shell window on a custom screen so far.

AmiCygnix was never tested on WinUAE.

Thanks a lot for the reply,
AmiCygnix works fine with AmiCygnix with "WinUAE"
I managed to get "Cybergraphix" to work with the shell to use the "exportDISPLAY"

I miss this step if it is possible to do it,
as written in the documentation there is no "top bar" in the "Cybergraphix" desktop.
Is there also on the AmigaOS side a keyboard shortcut to go back to the Amiga Desktop once AmiCygnix is in the foreground ?

Thanks again for any response.

Or, if possible, create a "script" with AmiCygnix that takes me back to the AmigaOS Desktop ?

I made a short video,
to give an example of what I would like to do,

Thank you.

( in this case I used "Voodoo3" but it also works with "uaegfx" )

The "db drivers" also work.
But they are a little slower.
That's why I would like to use "Cybergraphix"
They seem much faster in emulation.

I found two solutions that work.

The first is this:
;
; $VER: Launch-Amiga-Shell.bat 1.1 (04.01.2023) © Edgar Schwan
;
; Launches an Amiga shell on the Workbench (I deactivated the shell)
;

Cygnix:CygnixPPC/bin/wbench2front

this takes me back to the AmigaOS Desktop

but i don't know how to add it to the menus

The second less elegant but it works I added the top bar that takes me back to the Desktop and I can work with the shell for exportDISPLAY ("Cybergraphix")

I had to use winuae in window to facilitate video capture.
Full screen works without screen flickering.

the example in this video:

Here the DISPLAY export with Cybergraphix

with the precautions indicated above

taking into account that I'm using 3 virtual machines and the screen capture at the same time.

As usual, a better emulated graphics card would be needed

Currently Cybergraphix in emulation seems to be the best choice with AmiCygnix.
But this isn't very important, it's just a hobby to see what you can do with emulation.

here is an example with ffplay and firefox (firefox I need to understand better how to optimize it I did some tests the videos can be seen well once started).

here is an example video:

Impressing videos - I like it

What about "picasso96clonewb"? Should have the same performance as "cybergraphx" as it uses the same render routines. But as I've said, I never tried WinUAE.

There are several ways to switch back to the workbench screen:
* Press the keys "left Amiga + n"
* Go to the top right corner of the screen an click the left mouse button

Or you create a file named "wb.desktop" in "Cygnix:CygnixPPC/share/applications" and put this in (example):

[Desktop Entry]
Name=Workbench
Comment
=switches to workbench screen
Exec
=wbench2front
Icon
=amiga-shell
Terminal
=false
Type
=Application
Categories
=System;

Afterwards you can find a new entry in the menu "system tools" of the desktop panel.

Thanks for the tips,
Indeed Picassodb is fast maybe even better,

Only problem is that it gives me offset colors in AmiCygnix
I tried the various RTG tables but the result doesn't change.
It probably depends on WinUAE.

Note:
I'm using VMWare to host Ubuntu and am getting errors in the Amiga shell window.

I was wondering if it's due to missing NVidia hardware drivers or if it's my configuration wrong in AmigaOS.

At the end of the video the errors in the console are reported
Maybe it helps to understand why

(glx extension missing)

Thanks.

Basically my question is if I use real hardware (dedicated machine with Nvidia driver) the speed is higher or it always remains that of WinUAE. ?

Thank you.

The driver I suggested was "picasso96clonewb" without "db" at the end. This driver has a screenbar and is like "cybergraphx".

Please notice, that AmiCygnix uses the old version R6.3 of X11, which misses a lot of modern extensions like "RandR", "Xinerama" and "GLX".
If you want to see the supported extensions, type "xdpyinfo" into a shell.

I cannot say much about WinUAE, sorry.

Thanks for your valuable suggestions,
they are very useful.

Sorry, I'm rephrasing my question, I must have written it wrong:

If I use a real linux machine with nvidia proprietary drivers ( not Nouveau ) is the linux machine determining the speed of Firefox ?
When I use Firefox, does the machine hosting the linux process the job or is it always the AmigaOS system in use that processes the job with AmiCygnix?

Thank you

It is faster to run the client (Firefox) on a Linux machine and open the window in AmiCygnix than running both on AmigaOS. In my experience this is always the case, if you run a client and the server on OS4.

Especially with older versions of X11 (like R6.3 on AmiCygnix), the client has more to do than in newer versions. This is because newer X server have more extensions to do render (and other) jobs independantly from the client. This reduces traffic between the client and the server. But if you run the client on a Linux machine, which has a better performance than AmigaOS, the older version of X11 on the Amiga side could be an advantage.

The graphics driver on a Linux machine has no effect when you open the window on AmiCygnix. The complete handling of the gfx card is done on the server side,

I tried the 1.7 R2 version the videos are seen perfectly.
Now the "Opera" browser also works even if I have problems with the drivers.

Going back to "firefox" strangely when I use the interface it's slower.
For example, if I press the "spacebar" the video immediately pauses.
If instead I do it with the "mouse" it takes longer.

I was wondering if there is a lighter GUI to use, or if I have to use some trick in the Amicygnix options under the "mouse" options

(probably a winUAE mouse management problem)

Thanks for the great job.

The question is :
Because the video is extremely smooth while the GUI is slow.

Thanks for any response.
