Quake
Just can't stay away

I tried to run Quake for amiga os 4.0 but i have some problem..

I found two version on os4depot, one is only in software render and with that version i have problem with the graphic because it is not clear but the screen is like it has several vertical lines that cut the image of the game..

http://www.os4depot.net/index.php?fun ... e&file=game/fps/quake.lha

The second is OpenGL and it doesn't run fast as i expected..

http://www.os4depot.net/index.php?fun ... file=game/fps/glquake.lha

The rolling start demo when you run the game is fine, but when you start to play, the frame rate down quickly and the game isn't playable..

I have to run the game without the multitexture option as with it the frame rate is slower..

My setup is a micro amiga one

Any help or idea is welcome thanks

I dont have this game sorry, but when you have problems with frame rates in 3d games, you should try lowering the screen resolution and/or graphics quality/detail level step by step, testing each time, until its playable.

I apologise if you've tried this already.

I had Quake 3 on my A1, and I did find a screen resolution and detail level that it was playable under. Unfortunately I had stability issues with it after a short while. I dont know whether its the game, or my A1. Maybe both. :)

That's a known problem. It started when P96 switched over to using bigendian screenmodes (the PPC is a bigendian CPU) when available (update #4 I think).

It also happens with Genetic Species.

IIRC in both cases it can be "fixed" by changing the Workbench screenmode to 256 colours.

Hi @nubechecorre

I tried to run Quake for amiga os 4.0 but i have some problem..

I installed Quake from my "Nightlong" CD. I downloaded the registered version
from Hyperion Entertainment. It runs perfect in the A1-XE/G4. Since Update#4,
The auto Glut setting doesn't work. You have set whatever SCREENMODE you're in
to 8bit or it distorts video out really bad.

My setup is a micro amiga one

I don't know anything about MicroA1s.

Any help or idea is welcome thanks

Data please? What screenmode are you trying. 8bit is recommended.

Ok Now Quake in software render works fine if i put 8bit mode the workbench..

For GLQuake i didn' t know that on Hyperion site there was a os4 version made by them of Quake 1 ?!..

I have installed the AmigaQuakeversion of Clickboom and copied the glquake_os4 inside.. Maybe there is some different in pak file from clickboom version of quake and pc version ?? could be this ?

For the screen mode i run the game at 640x480.. for the bitmode i don' t know how to set it in the game but as it is in 3D, i think it is 32bit mode..

My Workbench is set at 1280x1024 32bit..

I have 256Mb and the final update+july update..

@all

It seems that putting the workbench to 16bit mode the game runs fine without problem.. maybe the 32bit mode gives problem to the 3d of radeon 7000 ?..

Now i can run the game fine putting the workbench to 16bit mode and adding the argument " -nomtex " ( no multitexture ) when starting glquake_aos4..

thanks for the hint

Nobody ever said to use 32bit or 3D did they?

Glad to hear the 16bit screen working!!

I don't think so, unless you have a different kind of Radeon 7000 than I have. I have my Workbench set to 32-bit and have never had any problems with glquake.

What could it be ? is there a way to investigate on the problem ?

Maybe the setting of the radeon icon in " devs: " are wrong ?
