Qemu is line based and under MacOs/Windows there are no usable gui's that could simplify it.

As a Mac user I'm sure you probably already know this but we have the very nice emulation tool "UTM" that can either virtualise (Apple Hypervisor), or emulate (QEMU under the hood).

Sadly, I did try to use it for our needs but even when you go advanced and modify the "command line" options directly it still tries to be too clever and take ownership of too many things, inserting so many additional command line options that we don't want that it manages to break things.

It's a shame, it would be a great front end otherwise.

There's also this GUI frontend called virt-manager on Linux. This one seems also tailored towards running Windows in QEMU kvm.

Yes I know UTM it is really a very good Graphical User Interface, I have already tried to contact the developers working on UTM but unfortunately I could not find any information about them.

Maybe there would be a possibility to add the Pegasos 2 emulation with AmigaOs4.1 to UTM. It would be the perfect solution at least under MacOs.

For the Qemu Pegasos 2 emulation with BBoot I made an english translation, this manual is not perfect because it was translated via DeepL, but it still might help to install Qemu with AmigaOs4.1 successfully.

I am still working on this translated guide to make it even better. Any suggestion for improvement is welcome.

It could be helpful for all the people who want to try this fantastic emulation with AmigaOs4.1.

Good job,

I have a question ?

How do you install the Extras programs from the installation CD ?

Because it happens to me that if I try to install the Extras
Try to install them on the CD itself.
And it doesn't seem to recognize DH0 (Amiga partition) as the installation path.

a little note:

"ringhio" server tries to initialize a USBctrl device on startup
(which he doesn't find)
even if present in System/C
for example by installing:

Enhancer Software

I have to disable among the selected packages of Enhancer Software
installing "pt USB something like this now I don't remember the exact name" otherwise the installation fails.

I haven't had time to look, probably you need to further modify the Pegasos2 ISO to solve this problem.

Modifying the Pegasos 2 Install CD/ISO is not necessary with BBoot as bootloader. It is all in the installation manual, you just have to read it.

Under Qemu you can mount images with "-cdrom /path/to/iso", when booting AmigaOs4.1 go to the kickstart menu (hold both mouse buttons down when the AmigaOs4.1 logo appears) then select your system partition. AmigaOs4.1 will be booted and also the install CD Pegasos 2 is included.

with regard to
Enhancer Software

Does it also happen to you that you have to deselect PTP USB DRIVER when installing Enhancer Software otherwise it will crash ?

or rather the package exits the installation

For me, the Enhancer 2.2 installer runs completely through even if I choose to install everything, which of course is not necessary.

Some drivers are for real hardware and should not be installed. Personally, I have only installed what I really need and that works very well.

Even worst, no prebuilt binary, no description of what dependencies you need to install.
plus there is different repos with different patches.

Right now QEMU boots into a backscreen, so I guess did something wrong.

Has anyone written updated instructions for installing on AmigaOS 4.1 on Qemu that uses BBoot? AFAIK, that's the currently best way to get OS4 up and running on Qemu.

The English version is not perfect, I am still working on a better translation. The German installation guide is very good and already finished.

You are welcome to use the English installation guide to maybe create your own guide about Qemu Pegasos 2 AmigaOs4.1, I am sure it would be an easy one for you. Otherwise give me a few more days until I have translated the English version better.

There is also a small statistic that was created about benchmarks performed on Amigans. This statistic was compiled because there have been people asking what hardware Qemu runs on and how fast it is compared to real hardware.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/u ... CQjr9CgvxB6SR8SW/htmlview

I also ran a few benchmarks with their GfxBench2D tool. It only shows the output in 16 bit, but already gets a pretty high score, but I'm not sure if that's good either. The 3 entry is from me.

You can see the result on their website:

https://hdrlab.org.nz/benchmark/gfxbench2d/OS/AmigaOS/

I agree with them, the installation with BBoot and AmigaOs4.1 Peg2 seems to be the best solution at the moment. Especially since this installation can be done cleanly and does not require modifying the original installation media.

We do not know on which system you are using Qemu to help. There are already ready builds for Windows and also Mac Intel. Also under Linux Qemu can be installed very easily, there are countless installation guides already on the internet.

I can only agree with @LiveForIt question

I will have asked a thousand times what is the right command line to compile
qemu

(Linux X64)

apart from
./configure --target-list=ppc-softmmu

it is not clear whether:
./configure --target-list=ppc-softmmu --enable-slirp --enable-lto --disable-dbus-display

and for MAC systems or even for X64

or:
./configure --target-list=ppc-softmmu --enable-slirp
it's enough

even if all the configurations listed above compile without problems (X64)
(it's not clear what the best performing ./configure compilation might be)

the question for the umpteenth time is:

for X64 systems what is the right command line for qemu to emulate AmigaOS (Pegasos2) is it better?

I use KVM for many other things the dependencies are all met for whatever I use.
I run FS-UAE with Amilator and it works perfectly. (KVM)

I could also edit the .xml file to use Virt-Manager
but I don't see the need for it at the moment since everything works from the command line.

Also with the new Silicon.chip 502 I can select the 16bit screen at 2048x1152 which I have mentioned several times.

For the umpteenth time to compile (Pegasos2)

What is the most suitable command line for X64 systems?

The question is not to create an unpleasant discussion
But it's a simple legitimate question for proper setup.

Thank you.

For @LiveForIt
if you tell me which distribution you use I will replicate your system and tell you the dependencies you need, if this can be useful to you.
if you use X64 systems.

For the rest everything works well here apart from my experiments that I do in general.

With the latest repository to choose here:

https://osdn.net/projects/qmiga/scm/

@Maijestro
Congratulations for the guide, it's very well done.
But if you use a MAC you probably can't help X64 systems.
I always speak for the ./configure

here is a short example in 2048x1152 at 16Bit
with E-UAE (CoffinOS) at work:

qemu-system-ppc -M pegasos2 -cpu 750cxe -accel tcg -kernel /home/white/Scaricati/bboot-0.4/bboot -initrd /home/white/Scaricati/Kickstart.zip -m 2048 -serial stdio -device sm501 -drive if=none,id=hd,file=/home/white/Scaricati/32gb.raw,format=raw -device ide-hd,drive=hd,bus=ide.1 -device rtl8139,netdev=mynet0 -netdev user,id=mynet0 -vga none -drive if=none,id=hd1,file=/home/white/Scaricati/coffin.raw,format=raw -device ide-hd,drive=hd1,bus=ide.1

-cpu 750cxe for (SDL compatibility for E-UAE)

>I have a Apple M2, this way I ask.

On MacOs it is very simple. If you don't want to compile.

1. install - here is a description https://brew.sh/

2. here is what you need to do to install - the dependencies/required packages are described and will install themselves

https://formulae.brew.sh/formula/qemu#default

In my case it looks like this. Homebrew installs all packages land in "/opt" - standard settings.
This does not violate the Macos system files. One directory where the files are and adding environment variables .
The uninstallation of Homebrew itself is also simple.

To compile as far as I remember you need these (if some is missing install ):

brew install
--
libffi
gettext
glib
pkg-config
pixman
ninja
--

I hope this helps you

Aside from picking the platform, I think the only other option I’ve ever specified on Mac is to enable slirp. I can check my config command later today.
