Hi All,

I know it's not Amiga Related... It's still Tech...

I have currently a HP iPaq with Tomtom5 loaded and a bluetooth GPS device...
It worked great, and I never got lost (copared to the AANavigator which got me lost more than one...).

Some of the features I like is:
1.> Update of the POI & Speed Cameras Location using POI-edit on the PC... Free of charge !
2.> Add new POI (like Park, Cinema, Castle, Petrol Station,...
3.> Easy to use and quick to "replan" if you missed your turn or to find an alternative route.
4.> Works on battery or Car Charger -- I want to avoid cables all over the place while driving...

Now I left it in my car turned off for too long, the battery discharged itself and it lost all its settings (especially to reconnect to the GPS Device). So far I didn't managed for Tomtom to recognise the GPS anymore tough the PDA itself recognise it (but when I enable the connection, no error, it show 0 bytes sent or received)...

So I'm planning in buying a new system...

I'm looking at the Garmin Nuvi 310D (with Traffic Update for life ?!), the Road Angel Navigator 6000, and the TomTom ONE GB (I don't like much the look of it)...

Which one would you recommend, and which one should I avoid ?

Jerry, my Acer n35 regularly goes flat these days as I never use it anymore.

Just make sure you save out to sim card (complete sys).

When you put it on charge and it goes thru its install bollox simply tell it you reload the backup.

You DID back it up didn't you?

Of course.. I use a pda sat nav and use both Destinator and Tom Tom software. I am assuming that your sat nav (tom tom ?) is not just a dumb terminal and allows you to save out to sim ?

I put my sat nav on charge at next 3cag meeting so you can see what I mean.

Are we nearly there yet ?

Hi Paul,

I have backup of the Software setup + POI on my PeeCee... And all data run out of the SD Card.
In fact everything seems to run fine, it's just a real nightmare to make Tomtom Software recognise the external bluetooth GPS device (though it even managed to sart it ! )...
Everytime I lost the tomtom software off the PDA, I have to reinstall it using the PeeCee Setup (it can't run off the SD) which will install the Bluetooth drivers, etc...
So this time I have enough of it and I'm looking for another system with Builtin GPS. At the moment, my favourite is the Garmin 310D (with free traffic updates for life...)
I might go to Halfords this weekend to have a look at it as well as other systems (and maybe buy it) ?
So far it looks like the RoadAngel device can not be updated that easily free of charge, so I'm more between the Garmin and the Tomtom...

I was told to avoid the Navman...

in the configuration menu on my tom tom istall you have to scroll thru the options until you find blutooth.

The option for mine though is something else .. serial I think ?

Done it... And in fact I have two choices of bluetooth... One on Com5, one on COM8 (and I don't remember which one I'm supposed to use as one is for "input" and one for "output")... But none of them seems to work !
It's why I want now a device with integrated GPS...

@Paul,

It's just a shame that the GP2X doesn't have bluetooth as it would have make a great Navigation System I reckon...

@Paul,

I managed to make my PDA+TomTom 5 work again... I needed to select Serial and then map the serial to Bluetooth port 8...

But in the meantime I bought a Garmin 600... It's so great (so far) as it also includes a "Hands-free" feature for my phone with very good sonority !
