the best way to remote use of real os4 machine ?

What is the best software we have to give ability for remote usage of OS4 from win/linux ? Do we have some VNC server working stable and good, so one can just use windows VNC clients and connect to OS4 machine ?

Alternatively, if there are issues with VNC servers, do we have a stable minimal-working sshd server ?

The ones on os4depot i find, too, just need some experience to share from those who do use os4 remotely, and have found the best way.

EDIT: tried AmiVNC.

-- At first with some old "vncviewer" from 2003 done by same author who original did AmiVNC: all renders correctly, but so slow on redrawing, just slideshow.

-- Next tried RealVNC Viewer 7.6.1 from 2023 : this one have wrong rendering and dropouts of signals all the time..

-- Next tried AnyDesk : can't even connect because unsupported protocol.

-- Next tried UltraVNC : this one probably the best one. Rendered everything correctly, the first loading were very fast. Through, also the same slow "move of the windowses" and whole redrawing.

Is there anyone having experience with, so to set up AmiVNC in best way in terms of speed ?

I am using TwinVNC on my X-5000 and TightVNC on the Win7 with RAW encoder

It is not fast (I mean the refresh) but at least it is working (kind of speed you get with AmiCygnix)

We have RDesktop which is on the AOS4 CD but I was never able to connect !

Isn't TwinVNC just a client, not a server ? I.e., I finding a way to give remote access to amigaos4 machine, so developer can use my machine for tests. Not to connect from os4 machine to win7.

The best way is still VNC but it will be slow since OS4 CPU will be used to create the images to be sent to the client.

FYI, AmiVNC is open source.

I've been using AmiVNC for years... Yes, it's slow and highly
dependent on net bandwidth and the efficiency of the VNC client.

It used to work flawlessly with the RealVNC client until RealVNC
"improved" their client. The ChickenOfTheVNC client on the PPC
Mac still works great with AmiVNC (if slower).

There's a slightly updated version of AmiVNC where the color
issue was improved by Broadblues (Thanks!). I'd need to check
with him to spread it around.

FWIW, there's also another (new, from scratch) VNC server in
works that I'd expect will break the surface soon. So far it's
faster than AmiNVC.

Stay tuned.

Thanks,

PJS

How much faster ? Noticeable faster ? If it will be at least 2 times faster, then it's good enough then.

What i find with AmiVNC that while it's slow enough, it still pretty stable in terms of network connections..

Will be interesting to test new VNC server.. Hope it will not take few more years to be released :)

I don't want to hijack your thread, but very similarly...

How about keyboard / mouse share? I'm aware of an Amiga specific program in AmiStore, but I'd like to use the same keyboard and mouse between Mac and X5000.

I didnt know there were clients for anything other than Amiga. I am happy to give it a go - and of course, any changes come back.

Apparently there is a really old Amiga client for a cross
platform keyboard/mouse sharing system called Synergy that I'm
told still works...

http://os4depot.net/?function=showfil ... work/misc/amisynergyc.lha

There's also an ARexx GUI for it...

http://os4depot.net/?function=showfil ... work/misc/asynergygui.lha

I haven't tried it myself.

Honestly, my Amigas are the only machines that are on 24/7, so a
server would be a lot more useful. ;D

Thanks,

PJS

I emailed broadblues' color improved AmiVNC to you. If anyone
else wants to give it a spin, let me know here.

It's a shame it's Synergy and not Barrier, I use Barrier on all my other machines.
