Tetris Queen
Quite a regular

Hi,

I'm considering writing a review of Tetris Queen for my blog. The game looks nice and it plays well, but sadly I can't make the music to play in the background. Have done the in-game sound test and that works for sound effects.

Anyone knows how to get the music playing? Thanks in advance.

Best source for OS4 software is usually os4depot.net, the 2nd result searching for "allegro" on it is http://os4depot.net/?function=showfil ... ment/game/allegro_sdk.lha which includes the file "Local/newlib/lib/liballegro.so", which you'll have to copy into SOBJS:.

I din't test it and don't know if there may be other, incompatible versions of liballegro.so somewhere else, but worth a try.

You shouldn't need to "get" it!

Once a program/game needs third party .so's it should *always* be distributed with exactly that...no user should be forced to hunt for dependancies, it's bad practice doing otherwise...just my 2ct's

I see it the same way you do, it's not user-friendly to have to look for dependencies yourself. Even in the readme there is no information about where you can get these libraries.

Thanks for the tip with the library it works.

I come to the same conclusion as you, apparently this game doesn't support background music. The loading times are also a bit long.

Conclusion: Poorly implemented

Thanks for testing, Maijestro! Too bad it does not have any of the background music. Even though it takes a bit of time to load, the game itself (once you start playing) is very good in my opinion.

I did some browsing and the game is supposed to contain music made by Queen, hence the name Tetris Queen! The DOS version has music in MIDI.

https://dosgames.com/game/tetris-queen/

I will look a bit more into it.

There are core music/midi pieces in src/data

They have been merged into the .dat file, so they are there...
Though the program itself is not aware of anything amiga (ahi/camd) and will not be able to play the midi files back whatsoever (unless someone implements camd support)

Too bad the author didn't even bother to add timidity support

Hi Raziel! Thanks for the explanation. Now I understand why the music won't play. It is a bit strange the author did not include support for this, since part of the reason the game exists is to play the music by Queen.
