What RX card do you use, and what is your experience with it?

Hey friends, I am starting this thread after just installing my RX 590. I'm happy to say it works as expected, so that's a positive thing! However, it's loud as hell. Seriously loud. Like a mini helicopter taking off. I'm not sure I can deal with this, honestly.

Maybe I can keep this post updated so we have a single source of info. BTW, is it possible to make tables on here?

Please respond with:
- Vendor (MSI, Gigabyte, etc)
- Card (RX 590, 580, etc)
- RAM
- Does it work?
- Any issues?

* Gigabyte RX590 - 8GB DDR5 - Works - Fans are super loud

I tried a RX590 too - it works, but jet engine fans and is no faster than my Sapphire RX550. Away from home rn, so no vendor info for you.
RX550 runs silent, has 2GB RAM and no issues.

AmigaOne X1000.

Take a look here

@Hans knows about it.

It looks like the driver is having trouble setting up the power management properly

...the clocks seem to be stuck at minimum levels

It's a bit strange that the fan would go up to high when it's supposedly running at minimum clock speed, but it is possible that the voltage gets set to the maximum.

I'm certain that the low clock speed is the reason for the bad GfxBench2D results.

There's a decent chance that updating the powerplay
code from the AMDGPU open-source driver would help. Alas, they've made huge changes internally, making updating anything difficult. I have no idea when that'll happen.

I really wish we had more developers working on the graphics system + drivers...

Mine is a Sapphire Pulse Radeon RX 560 2G. Never had a problem with it in five years (knock on wood). Being a 45W model, it is also rather quiet and doesn't produce too much heat.

Ah, thanks for that. Interesting. Well, that's a bummer.

I picked up a low-profile RX 550. I'll use that for now until the 590 works as expected, if ever :)

That said, the low-profile card looks so small I should have no problem fitting a pci slot fan between it and the card I'll be using for MorphOS.

I scaled back from the RX570 to the RX550.
It is smaller, less power consuming (draws its power from the x16 slot) and more than capable of running our 20 year old 3D titles.

AmigaOne X5000 -> 2GHz / 16GB RAM / Radeon RX 550 / ATI X1950 / M-Audio 5.1 -> AmigaOS 4.1 FE / Linux / MorphOS

I've got two (lucky me!).

Main one is a Sapphire RX580 8GB. I didn't buy it specifically for this machine, it was bought for an external GPU chassis but since Apple abandoned that idea it's now spare. Fans are fine with it. Obviously it's not silent but it certainly ain't noisy - and I'm really fussy about that.

Now, having said that, the card is long enough that it blocks airflow a bit in the case and the temps are 1C or 2C hotter with that card so I have been running an RX550 which is passive. I'm not sure on the make and model without opening the machine but I think it's a Sapphire again and 2GB.

For the most part the 550 is sufficient but when I was playing that 3D space shooter that was ported (or maybe featured, I forget) a month or so back it was obviously struggling so putting the 580 back in is on my to-do list before I go to the local Amiga event at the end of the month. Just haven't got round to it yet, been busy elsewhere.

Sapphire cards do seem to be the best supported in a lot of cases, not just OS4

---

Sapphire Pulse RX550 8GB - Works*, fans are quiet / power management OK
Sapphire RX550 - Works*, passive.
Soft reset not working on either card.

X5000 + Sapphire Radeon RX580 Nitro+ 8GB

Works like a charm and is much faster then a RX560.

It's not really loud. At least I can hardly hear it when my tower is closed. Have it always on high power.

From the invoice for my X5000:

AFox Radeon RX550 4GB graphic's card :
4GB GDDR5 video memory, GPU 1183MHz,
Core Cuda : 51, Bus 128Bit, Memory clock :
6GHz, 1 x HDMi + 1 x Display port + 1 x DVI

So far I am lazy and didn't got MiniGL working on it, but the GLExcess demo worked fine and I even was able to record the output.

On my 12 years old AmigaOS 4.1 install on microAmigaOne I got MiniGL working. Forgot how I did it back then.

I need to update the original post!

Today I swapped out the RX 590 which sounded like a jet engine for a Powercolor Red Dragon AMD Radeon RX 550 4GB DDR5 Low Profile Graphics Card. - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09NTNSCJM

I'm happy to report that this card is working great, it doesn't require extra power, is basically silent and runs seemingly cool, and the fact that it's low profile is super nice. I have plenty of room for a MorphOS GPU without cramping the PCI area too much. I'm happy with this card.

Extra bonus? It's only $89USD.
