micro Amiga One
IDE2CF adapter
AmigaOS 4.0 july update

I have problem with SFS 1.276 and compact flash card - ScanDisk ULTRA II 2.0 GB: message "This is not DOS disk" when I select quick format or format. With FFS2 ScanDisk work very well.

My first guess is that you tried to use a RIGID disk block
on a REMOVABLE medium. AFAIK SFS doesnt support that.
Use a mountlist instead which uses the whole medium like
a big floppy (LowCyl = 0).

Hmm... I thought CF-Cards can be used and will be detected as a normal harddrive. So removeable or not shouldn`t make a difference. As far as I know CF-Cards can also partitioning with HDToolBox or HDInstTools. So writing a RDB should be possible too.

Somebody else have such problems formating CF-Cards with SFS 1.267?

They can IMHO be used like a normal removable medium, e.g.
like a MO medium or a ZIP disk or a CD-RAM or a SmartMedia
card.

I've already written that it makes a difference.
Try to create two partitions on an USB stick with Windows,
then you see that even other OSes believe that removable
media are something different than a harddrive.

Of course its possible to create a RIGID disk block
on a REMOVABLE medium with those tools, even with Media
Toolbox. This doesnt change the fact that SFS will refuse
to handle such partitions. Use a MountList with LowCyl=0.

I thought a CF card connected to the IDE-port would look just like a HD from the hardware (and software) point of view? Isn't that what the adapters are supposed to take care of?

Never owned one. There exist two possibilities, either
the adaptor claims the card would be removable, then
it speaks the truth and the OS or filesystem may prefer
to handle the CF card like a removable medium and not like
a harddisk, or it claims its not removable, which would
be a big lie IMHO.

There exists a way to find it out, just start Media Toolbox
and look if it reports a non-removable harddisk or something else.

Ok, when we at least talk about CF-to-IDE Adapter then the CF should recognized as a normal HD. This is what I read about it and users that use CF-to-IDE Adapter told me. Of courese you can remove and replace it with another CF like HD`s. :)

BTW somebody knows if a CF can be dis- connected while Amiga is working? I think this won`t work.

Regarding removability, if we are talking about those CF2IDE adapters one can find on eBay, IIRC even on their eBay pages they warn against removing de CF card, so , as TetiSoft says, they supposedly lie regarding the status of the card, reporting it as non-removable: if they'd reported them as removable shouldn't be any problem, don't you think so?

If we talk about Classic (A1200), yes, they can be removed, I have swapped my eth
ernet card and my CF2PCMCIA card adapter more times than I can remember...

Well, if you put a CF card in an IDE adapter to make it act like a HDD in every way (that's the point of doing so), then it isn't any more (or less) removable than any other HDD. It's just flash based rather than using some megnetic media of some kind. But still a non-removable HDD...

So, a CF card in a CF2IDE adapter better report itself as non-removable, if it doesn't, then I understand there may be issues...
