** Update
OK, got it manually now.

got it... finally. Sheesh.

Will add 4k later to my manual settings but for now, after twaddling and finding some notes I made long ago (amazing I found them haha) that I needed to set Hsync higher than I think what seemed normal at the time. hahaha.

Hsync coming in at just under 89...88.86 khz so I set manually to 89 and vertical at 60 and boom, 2560x1440 shows now

Now will I be able to do that for the 4K. haha

That is for tomorrow.

Thanks for the ears all.

TJ

Original message...

The video will show you what I am experiencing. I seem to remember getting this mode to work on my HD7750 and this TCL 43" 4K TJ was tricky but did get to work and has worked for years.

I am not sure what setting I am not checking or saving or why I can't save my ScreenMode now for the faken resolutions, but maybe that is the issue?

Please see this video.

Any advice would be great!

I prefer 2.5k as nicer than 4k on my eyes.

1080p and 4K work great, but I have lost 2.5k.

TJ

So the reboot thing - you're just discovering the one downside of the RX series of card which maybe we forgot to mention (oops?)!. You can't warm boot them. It has to be a cold boot. Fortunately, there's a key combo that does a cold boot for you so while I initially didn't like the idea, in reality, it hasn't cause me a problem.

So if you use CTRL-Alt-Alt rather than Amiga-Amiga, you'll do a cold boot. The downside is obviously you have to sit through the animation every time.

Start off with that, I would think you wouldn't need the fake modes, you ought to be able to just save the monitor with the manual modes listed where you've added your 1440p, reboot and then you should be able to select it...

It did the same thing to me years ago when I purchased this TV and went 2.5K. You clearly see it in the one tab but never shows in the available. The setting was already there as well as it is the same screenmode that I left it at before the card switch.

Nice to know the Ctrl Alt Alt but that does not take care of the immediate issue, that 2560 x 1440 never showing in available screen.

Weird it is.

Thanks for the notes Martin.

Has to be some setting I don't have right or just not saving it. And clicking save and hard reset I have the same settings before the save meaning no faken checked, even if maybe not needed.

In my quest to get 1440p on this 4k TV, again been using it as 1440p for years on my Radeon HD7750 and made zero changes to my Screenmode prefs, I would think the new RX580 that can do 1440 should have just worked. Since it did not, I set AutoDetech on and it offers all less 1440p.

So, connect to a REAL computer monitor, an HP Open 32" that does up to 2.5k, but comfortable at 1080p as well, yet Screenmode on AutoDetect does not even see past 640x480? What?

See attached video.

Confused.

Maybe my ScreenMode prefs that were perfect for a Radeon 7750 need to be wiped out and a new one created named Radeon RX580 or something?

I am blind to that and figured things should have at least shown 1080p on a real monitor yet seems bogged down to 640x480 as the video shows.

Thanks for the ear,

TJ

One more video just in case this all goes back to an old 2014 Radeon HD 7700 Series in my Devs Monitor. Maybe this one needs to be altered, or made new?

Lastly, for those following along, I also renamed my and also replaced too as a last resort the Devs/Monitor to various names just in case after seeing the name of the GPU in Ranger.

Tried RadeonRX, Radeon RX, and Radeon RX Polaris10

No advancing and getting 1440p as an option and on that real HP Omen 32", nothing past 640x480 using Auto Detect.

Stalemate for me as of now. May just have to go 1080p or 4K. haha.

Maybe a setting in manual for 1440 is off on mine.

Going to see about downloading the TV manual and see what syncs it has as maybe I need to adjust those for the manual setting for 1440 to show. That is next. haha tj

I am away from my X5000 but I can remember that somehow my setup was also not able to display the resolution that I want. Iirc this has to do with some limitation within the gfx library. For some weird reason, my 3440x1440 only shows up at 61Hz and not at 60 Hz. So maybe you play with the refresh rate for your 2.5k resolution as well.

Thanks. Yeh been playing all morning. Had tried 61, then 62, etc... so far I have not found one that works. haha

I have a TCL 43S515 TV, which is a 4K TV.

Ranger shows VSync min 23 and max 76 so I changed up to 76 in Screenmode but no go. Then tried 61 I think.

I have tried so many variations I go lost where I last ended. haha

HSync is 15000 min and 81000 max.

Adjusted those in ScreenMode but still, that 1440 eludes me.

So odd it worked fine on the Radeon HD7750.

Maybe just an issue with my new RX580?

Anyway, I will keep tinkering but so far seems 1080p may be what I have to use, for now. 4K is just too small for my eyes and seems Workbench skitters around in 4K and does not seem right for me, clunky maybe even.

Thanks for the tip.

Hello TJ,

My name is Yvan and I live in Switzerland, I follow your videos on Youtube and you made me want to buy an X5000!

I have an RX560 graphics card and I have a problem with the 1920x1080 resolution and I don't know how to fix it?

I know how to do it with my 1200 PPC and Picasso96 but here I am lost.

Thank you for your help.

Like I do, you may want to make a video so folks can see what you are seeing. Otherwise it may be lots of shots in the dark guessing.

I find the whole Monitor Selection in Amiga OS to be a bit of voodoo. From needing the right drivers, Enhancers, blah blah blah.

You may want to let everyone know your full specs on the machine, version of the Enhancer and drivers and all of that.

For me, as shown above, I could not get 2560x1440 but 1080p was fine. But I had to manually add and play with those sync settings to finally get one to work.

So many factors, so many monitors, all allowing different sync etc..

I am so novice at Amiga and the OS and think the only way I got mine back was so many trial and error, taking any advices here and elsewhere, and trying them all.

But a video of your step by step showing you selecting your monitor settings and all that and knowing your version of all may help folks here offer ideas.

Odds are I won't see much (as I am novice) but maybe I will see something.

But again, I had to manually add one that FINALLY worked, adjusting my vSync and HSync where finally one worked. Was just luck I think. haha

I would also add, try more monitors. If you own 3 or 4,k try them all. lol.

I have 1 monitor that will work fine and others not at all. Same settings, just refuses to work.

Probably a sync thing again where the #s in the display prefs need tweaking.

So very monitor specific for me to get my resolution to work.

Thank you TJ, it’s a pleasure to talk to you!

Resolution problem solved!

I took my Radeon monitor file from my A1200 PPC installation and copied it to the X5000's Monitor folder.

And now I have all the resolutions up to 1920x1200 but I no longer have the 2560x1440 resolution anyway it was too small for my old eyes! But no problem, just remove the Radeon file to leave the original one and I would have the resolution 2560x1440.

Wow, had no idea a 1200 monitor file could even work on an Amiga OS 4.1 X5K. ‘

Glad you found a solution.

You could always switch back to the one that had the 1440p working and write down all the settings and then switch to the one that works good for your 1080p and add a 1440p setting using your known good settings.

Have fun!

All monitor executables should be identical, at least the ones for current PCI(e) gfx cards, only the ancient A1200/A4000 Zorro II/III, Blizzard/CyberVision, AGA, etc. ones may be different.
The difference is just the settings in the monitor icon ToolTypes: Board and chip name (incl. CMPLENGTH), automatic configuration using DDC/EDID data from the monitor or using manual (H|V)SYNC(MIN|MAX) and screen mode settings, etc.

This is what i've done to be able to use 2560x1440 on my X1000 withe a RadeonHD card.

Instead, with the Radeon RX550 I tried to insert all the possible resolutions with all the possible frequencies, but it doesn't engage any screenmode beyond fullHD 1920x1080.

note: The monitor supports resolutions up to 3840x1600.

Yeh, voodoo I say. haha.

Makes no sense to me as I had/have similar issues.

But happy to have my main one back as I like the 1440p but not into the 4k as it gets too small for my old eyes but 1440p looks good for me.

@AmigaSociety did you get 4K going?

I put my RX580 in yesterday to get some more performance and noticed it's only auto-detecting up to 1440 (ironically that works for me out of the box). I'm like you and won't actually USE 4K but you know - maybe one day it might be useful for something so it would be nice to have it there as an option.

My monitor is 27" 4K Dell

the problem is neither the gfx card nor the monitor...not even the driver is at fault.

the problem is that graphics.library (i think it was) is outdated and refuses to take perfectly fine frequencies into account, which is why they are being locked out completely from later usage.

since, e g. there can be a 4k mode running at 30 Hz, this wont ever be shown, listed or used because of aforementioned library shortcomings.
