On board sound - A1Xe g3 800mhz

Because of the occasional lock-ups I have been getting, I thought the problem may be down to the SBLive card I have in my A1, It was supplied by Eyetech as a complete system, so I assumed it should just work.

I have therefore installed the via686b driver from Os4depot (big thanks Dave), however I have mixed results with it.

Using the SBLive I can play Mp3's from my hard drive using multiview, AmigAmp and Tunenet, I can also play CD's using PlayCD, and do not have any problems with the music playing in the background whilst continuing to us emy A1 for other things, such as browsing, using wordsworth, pagestream, or even Turbocalc.

However, using the onboard via686b, I am unable to hear any sounds using Tunenet, although it appears to be playing the track. PlayCD doesn't play from CD, but if I copy the track to my hard drive multiview will play it, as will AmigaAmp.
I can also play Mp3's through AmigaAmp. The one draw back I have also noticed is that the music skips when I change pages in Ibrowse.

So my questions are, assuming I have given enough info above,

1. How do I get Tunenet to work with the onboard sound?
2. How do I get PlayCD to work with the onboard sound?
3. Is there some settings I can change to stop the track skipping, sound stopping really, when using IBrowse?

I know this is probbably a very old subject, but I just read about the SBLive as a possible source of system lockups, and thought I would try to see if the onboard sound cured it.

Thanks for any help.

Fixed typo in subject.

I've just switched back to the onboard sound to free up a pci slot for an lsi53c8xx based scsi card.

Do the following

Delete envarc:mixer.pref
Delete envarc:sys/ahi.prefs
Delete devs:ahi/emu10kx.audio
Delete devs:audiomodes/emu10kx

run ahi prefs

set unit 0

VIA-AC97 Hifi 16 Bit Stereo ++
48000HZ
Channels 10
Volume +0.0dB

In advanced settings select `full volume`

Click play test sound

Save.

For your CD Audio, have you connected the CDROM to JP34 or JP33 on the motherboard ? These are the audio in connectors when using the onboard sound.

Run mixer, select ac97 as the device set your levels and save.

You no longer need the soundblaster in then and therefore can be removed if you want to free up a slot.

Plug your speakers into the green connector of 3 at the back. (upper of 3).

As for skipping are you using onboard IDE or an SII based card ? Are you running your disks in PIO or UDMA ?

I have moved all those to a sound_storage directory

I had set this, but had to also set input to mixer

I am afraid not, I haven't opened my A1 in ages, Hmmm, must be a certain big bash?

I had to change the internal PCM, and internal master sliders to get output.

I must admit I'd be interested in getting my scsi scanner to work on my A1. What scsi card did you buy?

On my second attempt I sussed that one.

Turned my A1 on this morning, after doing the above last night and I don't get any skipping.

Thanks for your help.
