Which udma mode are you using?

Which udma mode are you using on your a1? On my sil0680 i'm using udma mode 1.In the beginning i was using best pio,cos i had heard it might not work with udma on my SE. Offcourse pio mode is slow,so i tried experimenting. I set it to udma0,it worked,so a couple of days ago i set it to 1. When using ctorrent on best pio it used 100%cpu when creating the files on my hd,on udma1 it used only 50%,and it was quicker .. So i'll now try to set it to udma2 and see how it workes.

Using the fastest possible on my internal a1ide.device
My HD's "could" go 133MHz (70 or UDMA 6) but as they went
completely unstable under sil card and UDMA 6 i reverted
back and ripped out the card to spare me a PCI slot.

I have the harddrive set to 100 MB/s, which is the max. that it can handle according to idetool. I haven't had a single problem since I configured it.

I just tell it to get on the horse (GG), and the driver sorts it all out if that's too fast.

Best PIO only on the VIA though, unfixed XE here. The PCI card is a SiI3112, I think I took my SiI0680 out, not sure where it is now.

If you use idetool it will tell you which udma mode is best, and take out the guesswork trial and error..

c:idetool -l sii0680ide.device
is what I used, but you will need to substitute "sii0680ide.device" with whatever ide device you use.

Also similar to pvanni, I have my Hard drive set to one below the max.

Just looking at your ide config that you have posted here, and mine, I have "error opening device" message on units 4 to 15. Have I got a uboot setting wrong, as the sii0680 only has two channels with two units on each?

idetool just covers all possible units you maybe can use
with more modern hardware/pci cards (maybe useable with
upcoming drivers?).

I got these lines too with my onboard ide, but cut them out
for readability

Hi @Antique
When updated the sii driver by Stepen Guillard, I started out with UDMA 1 for awhile. Works fine now at UDMA 3 since the SFS update.
