Just can't stay away

In the last 2 weeks I've been able to explore my new hardware a bit more and I'm happy so far, I'm not a big gamer of 3D games and that's not why I bought this machine.

What I do miss, however, is being able to use ScummVM

What I have already found out is that porting with clip4 is much faster and this applies to all NG machines currently running AmigaOs4.1. @smarkusg has provided me with first ports of emulators (mGBA/VGB) and also x5000 owners could confirm that it works much better and faster.

Unfortunately I am not able to compile ScummVM clib4 or even a SPE version for AmigaOs4.1. Therefore I would like to turn to the Amiga Cummunity and ask if there is someone who could provide this for the A1222? I can of course do the testing.

Any help will be appreciated.

It is hard.. because you need to recompile a lot of libraries for SPE. not only clib4.. Starting with first stacktrace, fix the bug, go to the next and so on..
And however keep in mind that clib4 can be compiled for SPE but except for small tests no one has tried it deeply

i'm really tired...

I have no idea about these things and I'm just someone who uses AmigaOs4.1, but as already mentioned all ports seem to run much faster with clib4.

There is also a clib4.library compiled for SPE and I have already tested this library and it already works.

As already mentioned I would like to do the tests for it.

Cool...I would be very happy about this, maybe we can learn something from it and it could be interesting for other developers as well.

I have also seen a video showing ScummVM on Tabor, but the video is 7 years old and it was version 1.6.0 of ScummVM. This version is nowhere to be found, so my last hope is that you can help me as an experienced Amiga developer and of course it would be for all A1222 owners in general.

I found an AmigaOS 4 version of ScummVM 1.6.0 on SourceForge: https://sourceforge.net/projects/scummvm/files/scummvm/1.6.0/

I've tried running it, but I get errors about it being unable to resolve symbols in shared objects. It's late here, so I don't have time to look at this further at the moment.

The version 1.8.1 of ScummVM works without problems, I took it from your link https://sourceforge.net/projects/scummvm/files/scummvm/1.8.1/ but it is absolutely slow on Tabor.

Maybe this version is also slow on all other machines because it is from 2016 and has not been optimized like the version on Os4Depot?

This is even too slow for some linux machines (not to speak with our gl4es and brand of gfx cards)...just let the intro roll and see it freeze mid-video, also sound/speech is totally out-of-sync.

Better to use Flight of the Amazon Queen for testing

Tested with Flight of the Amazon Queen and DreamWeb and it works fantastic.

Then I took another look at your latest version of Os4Depot and tested it, the main problem still seems to be creating the config.ini when ScummVM is first started.

With the ScummVM .ini from the 1.8.1 build, the latest version of Os4Depot also works, but it is much slower when running Broken Sword 2.5. But well I understood that Broken Sword will probably not be a game we can play on our machines via ScummVM. Thanks for the hint.

gl4es support could help speed things up a bit more.

Let me break the current status of builds down real quick.

*Every* (and i mean like in "all") official versions out there (be it on the ScummVM download pages, the ScummVM daily builds pages and even OS4Depot.net), are all based on a clean OpenGL toolchain.

Comparing with the gl4es clib4 build is completely pointless and unfair.
If you want to test out gl4es speed, use (see my sig) the infrequent builds...(as i said earlier, they are bleeding edge, untested, gl4es-only and may wreak havoc on your system...although i hope they won't)

They are built solely with a gl4es target in mind, so they *will* crash, if gl4es/enhancer is not available.

I'm still working on a "shared" opengl/gl4es solution, but time, real life(tm), unforseen focus shifts, elon musk, u.f.o.s. and many other things prevent me from doing so right now.

I'll (probably) get there eventually (already have some ideas to check), but not now i'm afraid (that is also the reason there is still no 1.8.1 on OS4Depot)

I might find some time before the next release, but don't quote me on that.

It's not that bad actually, the game is playable, it' s the videos that are completely slow (not only on our platform), if you skip them, you should be good to go (not blazingly fast, but playable)

I am very interested in a stable version on my machine, but currently I am not able to use the latest Os4Depot version.

Build 1.8.1 official source ScummVM page works very well, but has problems with adding games and some engines are not available, like Starship Titanic and so I can't play it.

The clib4 version also works very well and here it is possible to play Starship Titanic. In the game Flight of the Amazon Queen the sound is broken...which in turn works with the official build 1.8.1.

I have to show you...

Sorry for the bad sound in the video, I still have to work on my setup.

I can't use your version of Os4depot, so give me something to test or let's fix it

I can submit bug reports....

Edit:I used the wrong clib4.library (fast compilation), with the clib4.library from @afxgroup there are no problems with the sound output of Flight of the Amazon Queen ScummVM Clib4.

It probably won't be helpful, that last scummvm infrequent build I tested. There are problems with adding games like Bladerunner, Flight of the Amazon Queen, DreamWEB. The only game I could add and run well was StarshipTitanic with the default configuration "SDL Surface" without OpenGL shaders.

This happens when I want to add games:

The paths in the ScummVM GUi are set correctly to Extras,Themes,Saves,Plugins. I know it won't be much help, but I would really like to have a stable version for my system.

in my tests clib4 is much better than newlib.
It is probably the only fully open source project that is the future for AOS4.
Developers who have access for new changes to the system play with their stuff.
To ordinary users, it adds nothing. We only get scraps from the royal table ...
There were supposed to be changes from 2024 and ... was an update of the elf library only
Figure out the rest for yourself ....

I hope @afxgroup will manage to build a new version and it will work for you

Of all the ScummVM versions I've tested, your CLIB4 port works the best. You already posted the version in the big scummVM thread. It uses OpenGL shaders and it looks great and it shows that using CLIB4 can bring stability and speed.

There are a few error messages in the shell when running games but it still works, of course it would be great if you add some more optimizations, otherwise it works great for me already and I wanted to thank you again for that.

Here you can see how your CLIB4 build runs on an A1222 when running multiple games and it is already very stable.
