X1000: Sapphire RadeonHD 7950 Dual-X 3GB

Howdy!

My X1000 still sports its original A-Eon-build RadeonHD 6570 graphics card, which works ok, alas 3D stuff is not that perfectly supported. Now I were able to get hold of a used but working Sapphire RadeonHD 7950 Dual-X 3GB GDDR5 card, which should be a Tahiti/Southern Island product. So I have some questions:

1. Does this graphics card work in a X1000/AmigaOS 4.1? (I found this one form 328gts)
2. If it should, which might be the best driver RadeonHD version for this card? RadeonHD v5?
3. Do I need more/further software packages (especially for 3D stuff)?

...more questions (if it is really usable for the X1000) will follow when I'll try to get this setup working... )

1- yes I use it with no issue in my X1000
2- latest RadeonHD from enhancerV2 if I recall (I’m off on vacation till end of month and can check when I’m back)
3- just latest driver and and games like Huno’s Doom3 run ok to be playable but not super fast

I don't know the current status, but when choosing the HD driver you have to take into account that the warm start is probably no longer possible with the V5.

Ah, yes, I read about the warm start problem - so it's the v5 driver. Thanks for the info!

Oh dear, sorry for my ignorance... I tried to figure out which software package I need to for this (Southern Island) graphics card to:

- make it work in the X1000 (minimum),
- have the more or less newest AmigaOS4 3D and 2D acceleration (Warp3DNova, OGLES stuff and 2D video support - I assume),
- support for older Warp3D stuff as well (if possible).

I found at least three packages:

- Enhancer 2.2 - which seem to include at least some of the above mentioned functionality, but mostly refers to "Polaris" - does is work with the 7950?
- RadeonHD v5 - which I understood should work with my 7950 but does it include the 3D/2D acceleration libs/functionality?
- Novabridge - I understood that this is necessary to have older classic Warp3D software to work with the newer Warp3DNova libs?

If someone could give me a hint what would be the preferred software package I would be grateful!

Cheers,
Frank

It's hard to say with your 7750. As it's not on the master list:
http://hdrlab.org.nz/projects/amiga-o ... r-hardware-compatibility/

However that list is rather old and doesn't look updated. If your card is an SI you should be good to go. I have an R7 250 with SI chipset which is supported.

With Enhancer 2.2 you will have up to RadeonHD 3.7 and 2D/3D acceleration via Warp3D NOVA. That should be enough. IIRC RadeonHD 5 will give you extra video acceleration, but it's not needed for 7xxx series. And 3D for earlier chipsets would need extra drivers. Some had to be purchased from AmiStore which I think is still confusing. The NovaBridge support for older Warp3D software and games being an extra purchase if needed.

Thank you! Yes, it confuses me as well which specific (extra?) software/driver package I might need - but I'll start with the Enhance v2 and check what's working with that and what might be missing...

I bought at a good time. I just got back into my X1000 and needed to sort out the drivers. I managed to miss the boat on a beta Radeon driver.

At the time Enhancer 1.5 was current. I bought this and got the Plus edition as it wasn't too much more and included more drivers. I also saved money by buying the digital edition. As well as time and postage. While a DVD package is nice with an OS4 software CD inside it also creates physical clutter. Later there was some graphics upgrade I skipped but it turned out to be an upgrade to Enhancer 2.2. Having missed the upgrade I ended up buying Enhancer 2.2 which only had one paid edition.

Just checked AmiStore. So, there is Warp3D-SI, RadeonHD v1 and v2 still on there. Those are the older drivers. I don't know if the Warp3D driver is still needed. I haven't tested enough older games. I just wanted to test current 3d games like Spencer and OS4 ports like Shogo. They ran fine with my Enhancer purchase.
