Re: the best way to remote use of real os4 machine ?

Maybe they’re connected internally to their machines via 10Gbit Ethernet (or better)? The machines are also likely virtual, though I’m not sure that would matter. Your average Joe is going to get an entirely different experience over home WiFi.

I’m speculating of course, but when I tried a remote solution between my laptop in my living room and my main machine one room away it wasn’t viable. Now admittedly that wasn’t VNC, it was something proprietary but I believe I tried vnc and it was worse.

Something else to consider is that just because big business use it, doesn’t mean to say the employees like it 😁 I used to work somewhere where for security reasons, IT insisted all development was done over remote connection to virtual dev boxes. I’m not aware of anyone (except IT) that liked it, or enjoyed the experience. Fortunately for I avoided being subjected to that policy long enough to leave. It’s a bit like the most secure house in the world being one with no windows and doors. You can boast you have the most secure building, you just can’t use it.

Can you tell I’m a bit old and jaded on these things? 😂

To get back on topic, I imagine the experience between two machines, hard wired to the same gigabit network would give an “acceptable” experience - depending on your definition of acceptable.

I would also very much welcome a remote desktop solution.

Has anyone already set it up under MacOs in combination with AmigaOs4.1?

At the moment I only use one monitor with both computers connected and I always have to switch back and forth when I need something quickly or want to visit a website that Odyssey can't use.

My Mac Pro 2008 has been my Home Server since a long time. It has not even a compatible graphic card.

I access it thanks to TwinVNC and sometime thanks tro SSHTerm.

I am totally inexperienced in this, could you perhaps explain in more detail how it is set up.

Under AmigaOs4.1 the vnc client TwinVNC from Os4Depot should be used and under MacOs SSHTerm?

TwinVNC from Os4Depot seems to be very old and also the GUI Nevertheless I will try it and if I succeed I could create an installation guide for the forum. It might be helpful for other users.

@Maijestro

On MacOS, you just activate Remote Control (or something like that). This activates the VNC Server.

On AmigaOS 4.1, you use TwinVNC to connect to the hostname of your server (giving the good password) and that's all.

No need for any installation guide to be honest.

Sorry for me being off topic.
But my dream is having a Spice Client for Amiga to control my Virtual Macchines.
With this I could control VM Linux, Haiku, MacOS from my libvirtd.
For now I use VNC but Spice is more fast

I tested Twinvnc with my Mac and I find it great!
But can we do file transfer with it too?

I didn't know it was that easy
At the moment I'm unfortunately without the hardware to test it.

Thank you anyway.
