@Maijestro,

Just catching up the news on this forum to discover you are no longer in possession of the A1222+ anymore or I am incorrect on that assumption?

If no, was there a particular reason why you no longer need your A1222+ system if I can ask that to you?

However, I see you are now moving on to the big league with X5000/40 system.

Good luck with your new computer, I am curious to see more of the X5000/40 but I doubt I will get it soon and it is cost prohibitive for me...for now.

It just a shame we wont see more you tube video clips of you showing off the potential of the A1222+ system.

Yes it's true I sold my A1222, it went into good hands to a buyer from Germany, so we have one more AmigaOs4.1 user

Believe me the A1222 is and was a great experience for me to be able to use hardware again. A very long time ago I had an AmigaOneXe and all I can say is that the A1222 does just about everything better.

The A1222 is great for beginners, small compact and if you change the CPU cooler fan you have a really quiet system. Everyday things work well to very well, but I see myself in a different league where speed means everything to me and here only the x5000 comes into question for me.

Yes, I think the x5000 is for absolute AmigaOs4.1 enthusiasts and freaks like me Of course it is very unfortunate that this hardware costs twice as much as the A1222.

Don't worry about it, there will be similar videos. Of course you prefer to see your system in videos, I can understand that. Unfortunately I don't have space for 3 computers and of course I needed the money for the new hardware. I'm not allowed to give away any specific details, but there will be some changes to the A1222 in the next few months and a few new games that will also run well on this machine.

I understand perfectly. Free space is allways problem. I have two desks and two shelving units, two KVM switches and four monitors, and there is no free space.

I would also very much like to have the X5000/040. Three OSes, four cores for linux, mmm..., nice!
But I am very satisfied with my X1000, and near future plan is to swap my old Z10PE-D16 WS workstation for newer with Ryzen Theradripper. So no so big budget for all things.

So enjoy your X5000!

he he I can understand that, especially since the whole thing has to be supplied with electricity And you have a lot of cables dangling

At the moment I want to run the x5000 and a MacStudio on the 4K TV in the living room, yes I know it's not ideal, but it will be some time before the next room in the house is free.

I've already seen some videos with Linux on this hardware and it seems to work really well, as all cores are supported here. I think I'll test it, but my host system is AmigaOs4.1 because that's what this hardware was originally developed

@Thread

Is it possible to install and run Linux on a separate hard drive? I want to keep all systems separate from each other.

I have no X5000, so I have no direct experince. But for sure is possible booting scheme with small /boot partition with kernel on your booting disk or USB and all others like / and swap on separate disk.

X5000 linux guru is xeno74 from forum.hyperion-entertainment.com. You can ask there, or check the forum.
xeno74 is maintainer of linux kernels for X1000 and X5000 and he will be very glad if you can test new versions.

Yes... The best/fastest way is to create a FAT32 parttion on the X5000 BootSD for the Linux kernel and use a NVme SSD disk (with a x4 or x1 PCIe adapter) for the rest. You can find detailed information from the Hyperion's X5000 Linux forum as already adviced by Sailor.

@Magic

Mine is different but still weird. When I first turn it on it will light up for about a full second and then turn off. With the MB led flashing. THen when I press the power button a second time it will power up just fine and operate perfectly.

Another problem is my clock has to be reset everytime. I have tried replacing the battery of course. It will not update the time, but it doesn't reset unless I swith off the power supply or unplug it. In other words it will hold the time that I last used the system, but not update it to the current time. But it I unplug it or switch off the power supply it will reset the date and time to January 2000 or something like that.

BigMama the x5000/40 has had a long journey and has arrived safely at my home. Why do I call it “BigMama” because the tower is really very big

At the moment I'm still configuring AmigaOs4.1 and adapting it to my needs, but what I can really say is that this hardware is very fast.

Hmm... You seem to have a unique installation of OS4.1, not the usual splash screen.

Yes the AmigaOs4.1 bootscreen uses 640x480 for some reason my Samsung 4K SmartTV cannot display or use this resolution with all other resolutions there are no problems even below 640x480.

I already had these problems with the A1222 and RX560/570

I'm a bit late to the X5000 party, but after moving house and as I am setting up my new home study / computer room, I've decided to put an AmigaOne X5K into the mix. I've ordered the bare motherboard, as for years I have owned two X1000 towers. My plan is to turn one of my X1000s into an X5000 and keep the spare X1000/Nemo motherboard as a spare.

I need to buy some memory and a new graphics card and try to track down what box my old sound card got stuffed into when moving. The Cyrus board should ship out in the coming week.

I've got a mess here, but trying to get my NG and classic Amigas (well some of them) set up in the months ahead. There's not room for everything!

Maijestro, thanks sharing those pictures. What graphics card is that? I was trying to read the number on the box, but it's a big dark.

The complete system is originally supplied with a RX560. I have already replaced this card with an AsRock RX580, which brought about 25 FPS in most 3D applications.

One more thing about the X5000......I have never had such a good feeling under AmigaOs4.1 with this hardware.

Here you can get a brief insight into how my "BigMama" runs:

It never ceases to amaze me how any supplier thinks it's acceptable for a "pc" to make that much noise. That system's roaring!

I do love the X5000 but in recent weeks I've been pining for my gaming system back and I don't have room for both at my desk. There's only so much low polygon, low framerate 3D I can take

I keep meaning to do so many things with the system. One of which was to get in touch with a specialist PC place and see if they were aware of anyone willing to make custom cooling solutions. I don't like to see the 5040 idling at 70C, that's ridiculous for doing nothing much. I thought it was just the summer months but it's still doing it now that we well into autumn.

And I keep meaning to get into (simple 2D) game development on it.

But as with everything with me, I generally never get round to it and invariably pick up my guitar instead!!

You should hear my X5K in a Thermaltake View open air style case with 2 video cards. Is like an airport in my room. lol

Next to it is a dead silect Mac Pro 2013 Nuclear Reactor so I have polar opposites.

One noisy and one silent.

heh
