Airprint betatesting
Just popping in
Just popping in

See User information
The past year I have been working on airprint, a printer utility based on ipp protocol.
I have had help from betatesters on the initial releases and hope for feedback on this forum.

Airprint Version 0.36 is ready for download:
AmiSSL from Os4Depot

Changes in version 0.30:

1. Printer spooler directory should work properly now, this caused a lot of problems.
2. Printers was found trough search function, but printer properties was not added correctly or not found. Should be working better now.
3. Added SSL support, but require that you have AmiSSL installed, link to Os4Depot above. For some of the debug logs I got from you, the printers required SSL.

4. In the search window I added the possibility to search by manual ip address in case your printer is located on another subnetwork and my auto search does not find it.

1. After unarchiving, use the installer script, AirPrint will be installed in Sys:Prefs/Airprint directory.

2. Printer prefs will now open automatically. Select airprint as printer driver and airprint.device as Port Device. Save and quit. See snapshot of printer prefs below.
Resized Image

3. Open the Airprint utility from Sys:Prefs/Airprint directory and search for your printer and add it.

4. There is a settings tab in airprint where you select your spooler directory. This is by default set to 'T:Airprint_Spooler'
If you are going to print large documents you should change this to a location on your hard drive, but should be ok where it is for normal prints.

You should now be ready to use it for printing. It should support printing from:
1. notepad
2. AmiPDF
3. AmiGS
4. Odyssey
5. IBrowse (But follow their documentation for enabling fonts for printing)
6. Multiview
7. etc.

From airprint app itself you can open pdf, jpeg and text files for printing.

Don´t expect it to work perfectly or even at all for the moment, but every issues I hope you can bring up here and I expect many issues to arise in the beginning.

ToDo:
1. Support for printing other picture formats from airprint utility itself.

2. Porting of Ghostscript.

3. Printout at the moment is at 150dpi, change dpi regarding size of the picture that is printed.

4. Support all papersizes, at the moment it only supports A4 and US Letter.

Hi, I just installed Airprint, I own an Epson ET-2856 that work well with Airscan.
When I choose airprint.device from printer preferences I get
a message: Could not open file 'spool_l', triyng to add my
printer, the search function find the printer but when I choose it and click on 'Add printer' I get the message: Could not retrieve printerattributes for EPSON ET-2850 Series.

I put the spooler directory in an HDD with plenty space.

Anyway thanks for your work.

Thank you for the trial version.
My printer is an Epson Workforce WF-2860, which also works with Airscan without any problems.
I installed Airprint exactly as described.
Unfortunately, my attempt to print from Odyssey didn't work.
However, there was a print preview and a message about it, see screenshots.
I hope that helps a little.

I've got the same message about the inability to retrieve printer attributes when I try to add the printer (HP Photosmart 5200).

Thank you very much for effort.
I have similar isuue like pvanni and Petrol - stucked with this:

Find a printer ( HP LaserJet MFP M130fn ), and when press "Add Printer" nothing happen.
In one case I receive error message "Could not retrieve printerattributes", but in most cases It will do anything and cannot close window.

Printer has all services enabled, except FTP:

Are there possibility to enter printer attributes manually? In some .conf file for example?

P.S. tested on A1222+, X1000 and Sam460 - same symptoms. Probably it connected with printer response.

Thanx for testing. Could you try search and add printer again. And in T:Airprint direcrory there should be a file called debug.log. If you all could send me this file on my mail address I added in this original post, that would help me a lot.

Hi Arild

I am testing v0.2 with Xerox WorkCentre 3225 (192.168.0.16 on my network)
My printer is found in Airprint utility however it can't retrieve information from the printer.

Airprint is enabled in the settings of Xerox

See
https://freeimage.host/i/24Sjssa

TCP settings of the printer is as follows:

https://freeimage.host/i/24S8W4n

Do I have to change something in the printer ?

I can print from iOS devices with this Xerox printer.

Color Laser Jet Pro MFP M477fnw. Works with AirScan.

Can't find anything in settings to add the spooler dir.
Search finds the printer, but when I try to add it, it locks up the program.
I also get the message "Could not retrieve printer attributes"
No error log shows up in Ram:
When I try to read the settings file in Multiviewer, it gives the message "Not enough memory."

Thanks for climbing back into the work for Airprint. I believe this is even more crucial for the Amiga than Airscan.

Hi, HP DeskJet 3635 - successfully connected and printed test pdf

Amazing work!

PS. However, AirScan can not connect to the same printer/scanner while scanning preview doc.

It would be very helpful if the user could add a printer manually by specifying an IP address. The 'scan' only looks on the same subnet as the Amiga itself.

I gave this a quick test. I have a Brother DCP-L3560CDW which works with AirScan.

Upon selecting the airprint.device, it popped up a requester to select my printer but there was only a "print" not "save"button. I clicked "print" but maybe that was a mistake as it got stuck communicating with printer and I couldn't close or cancel the job. I rebooted and went straight in for a print from Notepad. That needed me to reselect my printer but other than that worked! The fact it pops up with a print preview is really nice.
After printing I tried printing again and ths time I got a "Could not open file '/spool_1/spool_1'" and that's all I've got out of it since (it'll probably be OK for one print again if I reboot).

edit I re-selected the spool directory as that was blank, and that seems to have resolved that issue.

I realize the inital startup after install is quite messy to say at least, will improve this for the next version.

Just tested it with my Canon G6000 series (printer/scanner).

AirPrint does find it without any problems and I could print pdf and jpg file.

The only issue: AirPrint keeps on "Printing document..." and I cannot cancel it.

Thanks a lot, Arild!

Tested with HP ENVY 4520 connected via wifi, Airprint still found it wow, this is truly remarkable.

I didn't do any further testing, but I'm open to it because I was very impressed that the printer/scanner was found. Great job!

We need something like this on AmigaOs4.1, it allows us to use modern Airprint printers. nice....

Edit: Ok first print via NotePad which worked well, but the font was very small
