A Good Playstation Style Contoller

Can somone recommend a Playstation type controller?

I have an actual one, but they all fail and I am not sure I can be bothered to get the soldering iron out.

I have a cheap Chinese one, but the D-Pad is awful.

Is there a good USB controller that looks/feels like a Playstation controller that someone uses?

You'll have to make sure the controller supports Directinput.

AmigaOS support normal USB HID compliant controllers (also known as "Directinput"),
whereas most third-party controllers work internally as Xbox controllers, which uses Microsoft's wierd propritary XUSB protocol (aka "xinput").

iirc MorphOS has drivers for Xinput, I don't think OS4 does.


Logictech's Dual Action controllers seems to have alot of fanfair, alot of them still being in use for 10+ years.
They're sold as the f310 (wired) and f710 (wireless),
they both have a dipswitch for DirectInput/Xinput mode.

8bitdo Pro 2 is also popular with Directinput support and has a Nintendo like dpad
These also use hall-effect joysticks which are frictionless and should pretty much last forever.

Edit: accidently linked the bluetooth version of the 8bitdo pro 2, which won't work on OS4, changed link to wired version
Edit2: Seems like that only the bluetooth version uses hall-effect joysticks, wired version uses potentiometers for the joysticks

Been looking into it a bit more as I'd like to get a new pad myself

Seems that the logitech d-pad is a bit loose, people still rave about it so maybe its tactility makes up for it.

The f710 also has a fairly slow button response time of 23ms (8:20)

And turns out that the bluetooth version of the 8bitdo pro 2 (which has hall-effect joysticks which won't drift and last forever)
does have a USB-C connector and included cable for a wired connection. So it will work on OS4 and is more premium than the cheaper hardwired version linked above.

Seems to be made from the same parts as the Ultimate2C which is at 5:07 which the reviewer seems to like a lot.
