it seems that your printer it's not airprint compatible,
here a reply on the official HP forum to an user to a question about using the printer with an iPad:

Wow! I was gone for a week, and we have jumped from 0.20 to 0.36! Better yet, Airprint is now working for me.I have successfully printed a couple PDF's and some text.

But I confess that I skipped from a non-working 0.20 to the latest 0.36 without trying any of the in between releases.

Thanks you for all your work. I'm going to play around a little more now with Airprint.

BTW, I've noticed that several PDF's from Pagestream Amiga didn't print. But I have a LOT of windows created PDF's, and they seem to print fine.

The PDF generation code in PageStream is 25 years old, so it doesn't come as a great surprise.

now my printer is recognized.
"Epson ET-5800 Series"

but printing does not work. i tried to print to all available trays (main, alternative, back) and the printer complains about missing paper in the back tray.
so it always seems to try to print to the back tray and not to the selected one?

With version 0.36. Now I am able to add my Xerox Workcenter 3225 and print simple .txt files.. Great improvement :)

However , When I try to print .pdf files, Airprint generates the preview file, however when I click Print...

I get a requester saying could not open ppmfile.

Xerox prints an error message on A4 paper

I believe this has something to do with my ghostscript execution for making the pdf fit on a4 paper, I´ll do some testing to rectify the issue.

Could you start up airprint, do a new search for printers and add the printer, afterwards if you could do this print again. Then send me the debug.log in T:Airprint directory on my mail. I might then see what is happening.

Now added new ink cartridges to a HP2801E which fixed the issues I was having.
Tested with the latest version of Airprint (0.36).
Worked, no problems at all finding the printer and printing a PDF document.

Cheers

AirPrint v0.36 found my HP Officejet 4650 printer with no problems.

Results so far ...

PDF files and text files print ok if selected using AirPrint GUI.

If I set my printer prefs to use airprint.device
I can print ok directly from AmiPDF, MultiView and NotePad,
but not directly from Final Writer 97.

If I convert my Final Writer document to a pdf document,
then go to the AirPrint GUI, I can print the pdf file ok.

-------------

My fallback for Final Writer 97 is to use
- HP Photosmart - HP PCL3GUI printer driver from OS4Depot
- NetPrinter.device v 1.15 from aminet

This fallback method allows me to print ok directly
from Final Writer 97 and NotePad, but not from AmiPDF.

Cheers,
redfox

"BTW, I've noticed that several PDF's from Pagestream Amiga didn't print."

Hi Paul,

I meant to answer earlier about Pagestream and PDFs... I make
a lot of PDF files with Pagestream (filling out forms for work)
and I've found the built in "Save as PDF" never works well.

OTOH, if you use the regular Pagestream printing system then
you can make great PDF files. Just follow these steps:

- In the Pagestream print set up window, set Pagestream to print
in "Postscipt" mode

- Select the PPD config file for the "HP/HPLaserJet4P-4MP300"
(I found that's one of the best printer descriptions for doing
this).

- Set to have "Font unload" set for the document.

- Set to send to disk file.

- Obviously, in the setup window you set page formatting for
your document.

- With send to disk file, the main print window will show a
"Save" button. When you click that, Pagestream will ask
for a filename and then create a postscript file there of your
Pagestream document.

- With the AmigaOS ghostscript CLI program or with AmiGS you
can then make a PDF file that will include all the fonts, etc.
that Pagestream typically misses in the PDF files it makes.
FYI, the command line for ghostscript I use (in an alias) is:

gs -sDEVICE=pdfwrite -dNOPAUSE -dBATCH -sOutputFile=[PDF FILENAME] [PS FILENAME]

- Obviously, you should also be able to print directly from
ghostscript or AmiGS using their postscript outputs if the
drivers and printers accept postscript input.

You might even be able to use the same postscript printing
method to print directly to airprint as if it were a postscript
printer, but I haven't tried that yet. Just gotta get all the
bits to work together! ;)

Good luck,

PJS

Do you get a preview of anything from finalwriter when you try to print, or is it not starting up airprint at all?

Anyway I`ll look into it so we can have it working with Final Writer.
