Well I done did it. I bit the really big bullet and ordered a Cyrus X5000/040 motherboard. It should arrive tomorrow March 10. I already did my shopping: 1 terabyte sata SSD drive, 750 watt semi-modular gold certified PSU, 4 gig 1600 Mhz DDR3 memory, RX 580 graphics card, Inland X1 case, and I cannibalized the SB Audigy FX from my SAM460LE for audio.
I do have one or two questions. My understanding is I shouldn't perform the 1st update, but do I do the 2nd? Also, I heard talk of an NGFS, is that available for the X5000, or is that just for the A1222+? Any other tips or advice? Thank you in advance.
Yes I have an installation CD (or rather the ISO) that I wrote to a USB stick following some instructions I found here on Amigans. GGS Data also sent me an image of a rescue drive that I Balena etched onto another USB stick. I should be pretty well covered.
Thank you for the tips regarding AMIUpdate. I actually forgot about that.
And I'm pretty familiar with SFS, it's what I use on my SAM460LE.
Yes! I got it yesterday. After I put it all together I tried booting from a USB stick I set up according to some instructions I got somewhere on this site. No go. I then tried from the image that GGS Data sent me, which I wrote to a USB stick with Balena Etcher; also, no go. I was about to come here online to try to figure out what the problem was when I noticed another USB stick in the box that the motherboard came in. Viola! It worked.
It turns out the board comes from Amedia in France, the same folks that sell the pre-built X5000/040s. They included a USB with essentially a ready to go system that you install by running a script in a drawer called Restore.
The only thing is that it includes a lot of the stuff from Enhancer 2.2, and I'm not sure how I feel about that. Also, because it comes from France, you'll probably have to change your locale information.
I'd still like to figure out why I can't get a working bootable USB stick, but for now I have a system I can play with.
Congratulations on your X5040. I also have an Amedia USB drive. I copied the contents of the drive to my SSD and then sorted through it; it contained things I didn't need.
I don't know if Amedia updated the drive, but if it's the same one I had, there are missing files in System/Python, and there are some updates to be done, like the latest version of amiupdate, etc.
I guess the no go was the missing Radeon RX driver on the first USB stick..
I have the X5000/20 so it will be easy for me to just swap the board I guess(fingers crossed).
I hope this mess with drivers(Hyperion/A-Eon) will be solved with AmigaOS 4.1 Final Edition Update 3 <------ That name, not even Microsoft.. AmigaOS 4.1.X.X would work for me
Ask questions here if something doesn't work out! Have fun with the worlds fastest Amiga!

OK so here's the thing. I spent the better part of today trying to create a bootable usb drive but no success. The instructions I followed included copying the RX drivers to the USB drive but the installation didn't even get that far. It said the drive wasn't bootable. I tried different USB sticks and filesystems, but no go. The only thing that worked was the USB drive that came with the motherboard.
I would like to start fresh and update properly. That's normally how I set up a system. I haven't been able to figure out how to create a bootable USB drive.
I was able to do it with my SAM460LE, but not with this current configuration.
I guess the no go was the missing Radeon RX driver on the first USB stick..
If that's the case, then it's embarrassing that the Radeon RX lite driver isn't included and in the kickstart files list. The lite driver has been available since the first Radeon RX release, and has occasionally been updated when needed (e.g., we occasionally discover new PCI device IDs).
My X5000/40 came with a recovery USB with everything pre-installed.
I recently tested a version of the bootable key and I have no problems with the Radeon RX. Be aware that, if I remember correctly, not all Radeon RX 580s are currently supported.
For this information, it's best to wait for details from Hans. On my end, I tested an inexpensive NONAME and an MSI. The MSI RX works, the other one doesn't. There have been other posts about this on this forum.
