Then if x86 one ok, and wii one not, then its endian issue and maybe Jmarch on vogons forum can deal with so we can add it to our version

If you don't mind could you send me the Wii PPC build so I can test it under real conditions?

I would like to be 100% sure that it is not due to the Pegasos2 emulation and the incorrect rendering of SDL. You could also test it under the AmigaOneXe emulation, there have never been any problems with SDL.

Here is a screenshot of DosBox in 16 bit mode on my real machine. It looks similar to yours.

I also managed to reinstall windows 95, and by using the Trio64 driver i do have a sort of working system. Its slow and the colours are wacky just like in the above screenshots. (endian issues i think)

Here a quick preview of the dosbox version for Wii (SDL1 and SDL2) on the QEMU A1.

I quickly added the sdl2 patch to the dosbox-wii version.
The effect is the same as with you and @Skateman

The original dosbox-wii version based on SDL1 displays the image a bit differently.
Both versions display the image correctly with 256 colours.
Both versions compiled under Linux x86 work fine at 16 bits.

The version from os4depot doesn't work on QEMU because it is compiled with an old version of SDL2 - I have no way of testing it.
I hope this will be useful for those interested in bug fixes for PPC.

Thank you for testing it again under Qemu A1XE. Which confirms that all PPC builds of DosBox are affected.

@kas1e

I don't know where the sources of DosBox for AmigaOs4.1 are and if they are still maintained, but since you helped with the porting/development can we report this bug to be patched?

I'm not saying that using Win95 via “core=normal” is great, but with “core = dynamic” it could be, you wrote that DosBox applications run up to 3.5 times faster and yes I could observe that when using different games via normal/dynamic.

Unfortunately it is currently the case that the mode “core=dynamic” makes Win95 run badly and with “core=normal” it runs well.

This is a problem in the version from os4depot and the port I checked dosbox-wii
On dosbox-staging this does not occur. CPU dynamic works fine.
The bug on dosbox-stagin 0.76 with > 8 bit mode continues to occur. dosbox-staging choruses with SDL2.
Maybe something has been improved in newer versions....

*) QEMU doesn't like too much FPU load - that's why dosbox-staging runs slow with me.

It's great that you're doing this

For cputype=pentium_slow” you should set ‘auto’ and ‘core=dynamic’ and test it again. It should normally be faster. Qemu on a MacMini and MacStudio is not far from an X5000 software rendering.

On real hardware the compositting mode has been added for texture rendering and that is the only advantage we have.

Have you all lost your minds?

Jokes aside, "Intel outside" and "PPC rules" is still true I guess.

We show that the PC does not always have to emulate AmigaOs, but that we can also emulate PC hardware.

Simply because we can 😂.

In my opinion, this is less of a sin than running m68k programs with the Unix Amiga Emulator on a PPC.

Since then it turned into one of the largest piracy sites, no longer respecting robots.txt and other restrictions for web pages, archives web pages now even if the owner explicitly forbids archive.org doing it, and allows uploading any pirated software, as long as the uploader marks is as "open source", like it's done for example with "windows-95-OSR3-beta1" and "AmigaOS 4.1 FE Update 2" ("IN COLLECTIONS: Community Software".)

you probably right.. i remember it had some copy right problems few years ago that changed the site alot.. but, those files you posted are those pirate software? i'm mean, it's just update files for the official OS4 install.. not full OS.. cant be used anywhere else i would asume.

The full AmigaOS 4.1 FE is available on archive.org as well, just like the source codes of AmigaOS 3.1, and a lot of other Amiga related stuff. Easy to find of course, but I can't post a link to it.
- No idea how it's in Norway, in other Scandinavian countries like Sweden and Finland it's quite relaxed, but in most parts of the EU posting a direct link to pirated software is as illegal as distributing it yourself and I could get sued (obviously not by Hyperion, but by other owners of AmigaOS 4.x parts included in such illegal distributions).
- The amigans.net moderators would have to delete my post with such a link, or they could be made responsible for it as well.

This is purely about DosBox for AmigaOs4.1 not about pirated copies and their consequences.

I have improved something in the dosbox-staging version, made a couple of backports to version 0.76.x
MMX it looks like it works and some minor fixes from the dosbox-staging repository.

Dynamic did not work after 2021 and was restored in 2023 when the developer managed to get the MacBook G4 up and running.
It is not known if everything has been fixed regarding Win9x and > 8bit modes. There have been a lot of dosbox-stagin changes since then. Nothing related to this is visible. One patch regarding windows 3.x.
If someone has a Linux or MacOs PPC it would be very nice if he would check it out. Otherwise there is no point in looking for it.
My version on QEMU works very well for me. With configuration changes it works under the SDL2 "composite".
My project with this is finished and maybe it will inspire someone regarding DosBox under AOS4.
