Which FTP Client can best be used within AOS4? (AmiFTP always crashing)
Just popping in

See User information
Hi there,

since I need to exchange some data between QEmu Peg2 AOS4 emu and Windows I use FTP (since USB exhange emulation reliably crashes entire QEmu hier - latest version of QEmu running).

So I installed AmiFTP from OS4Depot. While it works fine for some short accesses it terminated when being idle after 30 seconds with an AmiFTP error and shortly after it crashes completely often freezing entire AOS4.

So is there a handy and usable alternative with an easy to use UI ? (Usability of AmiFTP is great though.)

Thank you in advance and

Kind Regards

@Reth
For easy to use GUI people got excited recently here:
https://www.amigans.net/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=9788
but otherwise you could also make a network share on the host and mount that from the guest with some SMB client or similar which may also work.

I use RC-FTPd as a server on the Amiga and whatever FTP client on the other side; currently DirOpus for windows.

For whatever reason this program does not get a connection to my server. AmiFTP does it without any issues. For both I set my host left port to 21 and added my usernamen + password. AmiFTP gets the connection done but RNOXfer cannot connect. Really strange.

Did not yet try the other recommendations - also not yet Wormhole.

Ok, have to correct myself. Used wrong password. After changing it still did not work with rnoxfer until I changed to passive mode. Now I can connect.

pFTP is working fine as well.

So far I admit I like the UI and handling of AmiFTP most - but unfortunately that crashes reliably.

PFTP works great. I also use the one built into DOpus 5.

I think you can "Ignore DSI" on the AmiFTP crashes and it still runs. I think it just hits some null-pointer exceptions sometimes. AFAIR it harmless. Not sure though ;)

@Deniil:
Ignore is not offered (grayed out). When I click on "End Program" it often freezes whole system sooner or later (or immediatelly).

@mbrantley:
How did you integrate it or how is it integrated?

@jabirulo:
Here is the Crashlog - do you maybe also know what that Timeout error means which disconnects automatically? There is nothing in the settings also other ftp clients do not disconnect automatically.

Does not seem to work for me. Started it on AOS4 in QEmu and also in Win11 - but when Win Firewall kicked in to tell that it disabled some features of WormHole I clicked cancel instead of allowing WormHole the access.
Now I do not know where to check to get the Firewall settings changed or at least the requester back. So far I did not find any thing on the wormhole FAQ or somewhere else.

When I try to send a file from either Win to AOS (QEmu) or vice versa it just does nothing (or the file is stored somewhere not set in Path). Also debug output on both sides does not reveal anything useful.

Do you or anybody maybe know how to get this corrected?

Not sure about "timedout", but IIRC old AmiFTP version had some kind of "kludge" to send NOOP to avoid disconnect ("ping_server()").

I too get it on some ftp servers if I don't "do" anything for some secconds, maybe it's kind of "avoid permanent connections without doing nothing"

I know nothing about WormHole. For ftp, if you use -netdev user do you have appropriare hostfwd options to allow the necessary ports through?

Using latest version of AmiFP from OS4Depot. But that one crashes reliably without any chance of ignoring errors.

@balaton

Not sure what you might refer to here. The FTP tools are working fine (except the AmiFTP crashes). Just for Wormhole I did not configure the firewall and now it does not seem to work but also does not throw any errors or so.

May only be needed for normal ftp, not if it uses passive mode. FTP normally wants to connect back to data port which has to be allowed with -netdev user that puts guest behind its NAT so normally only outgoing connections work.

How to configure your host firewall is not a question for QEMU or WormHole. Consult docs of your host OS/firewall on how to reset it.
