Let’s Support SPE Development for A1222 – While We Still Can!

Just a quick post to share that I’ve donated a slightly larger amount than usual to HunoPPC via his Ko-fi page (https://ko-fi.com/hunoppc), to help motivate him to keep going with SPE-optimized software for our machines.

His recent SPE version of WipeOut reportedly sold only less than a handful of copies, even after months of work. That really highlights how few we are, and how crucial it is to show support for developers who are still putting time into making the most out of our hardware.

After hearing that Huno is looking into a DarkPlaces (Quake 1) port with SPE support, I felt this might be the last real opportunity to see a solid, SPE-optimized 3D FPS on the A1222 from him. There are no guarantees it will be finished or released, but I think it’s worth encouraging that kind of effort.

If you also want to see more advanced 3D titles truly take advantage of the A1222, I encourage you to support him on Ko-fi. Even just 5 euros can help keep motivation alive. And if you do donate, consider leaving a note saying it’s for “SPE motivation” so he knows there’s still interest out there.

Because honestly, if we don’t support this kind of work now, we may not get another chance.

So, are you an A1222 owner? Instead of reaching for that next cola or coffee, consider sending a small donation HunoPPC’s way. A few euros might get us the optimized 3D games we've been hoping for. Way better than the temporary boost from that caffeine fix. Let’s show we’re still here and still care.

If you want to see more software for A1222 you need to get full SDK and GCC compiler support.

Btw - with my recent ports of GemRB (Baldur’s Gate) and Stratagus you
can get titles running on the A1222 now. They are not specific SPE optimized
but run fine (GemRB runs at 20 fps, Stratagus at same speed like on a
x5000).

Up to now the sales numbers of both titles is not
that great… i especially wonder in case of GemRB-
not many other great rpg‘s available on AmigaOS…

And yes to see full support we would need a full SDK
supporting SDK. Currently only some titles can support
it.

I plan to get Stratagus. Do you have a link?

I don't own an A1222 and I don't play games very much, but I've been Huno's bronze-level supporter for over a year now. It would make sense that gamers wanting to give meaningful support to Huno's efforts subscribe at one of the available tiers.

Thanks for the reminder, I had actually planned to buy your GemRB port, and I’ll go ahead and do that right away!

Also, I already purchased your Stratagus port and have been very happy with how it runs on the A1222. Thanks for the great work! (And check your email.I replied earlier to let you know that I managed to play the intro video without the machine crashing, using the command you suggested in your last email.)

Really appreciate your continued efforts to bring quality ports to our platform!

Absolutely, and you’re right – subscribing is definitely a great way to support Huno in the long run

I just thought it might also be a good time to remind him that there are A1222 users who care specifically about his SPE-optimized efforts, especially after the somewhat disappointing WipeOut experience. He likely has no way of knowing whether most subscribers are actually A1222 users or not, so a visible gesture or a few comments tied to that platform might help him feel that the time he puts into SPE support is noticed and appreciated.

It’s not about replacing ongoing support, but maybe giving a little focused encouragement so he knows there’s still interest in pushing what the A1222 can do.

Wow, I’m honestly really positively surprised by all the donations and support. Thank you to everyone who has followed my suggestion and contributed. It truly shows how much we appreciate HunoPPC’s work on SPE-optimized software for the A1222. I’m sure he’ll be pleasantly surprised when he sees the donations, and I hope it will motivate him to keep working on this important niche.

While we absolutely don't want him to stop working on ports for the X1000, X5000, or SAM, it's great to know he has the A1222 in mind, and we all value what he’s already done for our machine. Hopefully, this support shows that we truly care and appreciate his efforts. Let's keep showing love and support for other developers in our community too!

Another example would be @TheMagicSN, who has created A1222-specific ports of games like Warcraft 2 (Stratagus) and Baldur’s Gate (GemRB). These ports are available for purchase on Alinea Computer's webshop (https://www.amiga-shop.net/). Me playing Warcraft 2 on my A1222: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bCJhZh_f_qY

Please feel free to add other examples of people who are working on or have already created software with A1222 in mind. There are certainly more out there, and the more we can support, the better!

Looking forward to potential projects ahead. Like a possible DarkPlaces Quake port, which could really push the system and our Radeon RX 5xx cards in a way we haven’t seen before, filling a gap we currently have!

I just received the following message from HunoPPC, and he kindly gave me permission to share it here.
To those of you who have already supported him, or are thinking about doing so, it looks like your encouragement is already making a real difference and giving him a solid morale boost.
This is a very promising sign for us A1222 users!

Hi,

I really wanted to thank you for everything you do because it's truly tremendous and it means a lot to me. Thank you also for your large donation and the motivation you give to other users who hadn't realized how much the few AmigaOS4 developers lack support and feedback from users. I'm going to do my best to achieve great results on the A1222 and, of course, make some great ports for your enjoyment. Thanks to you, I'm starting to receive some donations Thank you and have a nice day.
