OS4 Classic GFX-problems..

Hello! I have some problems with OS4. The installation procedure works great, but when OS4 is installed I cant get my Voodoo3 card to work at all.

I have a Mediator LT4 and I choose voodoo/pci on installation, but he seems to not find the pci-card at all (with showconfig) and no graphicsmodes are available (except for AGA).

When using P96 setting he claims that there is no card at all. I have installed Elbox own drivers, and OS4 finds the Voodoo-card, but when choosing (f.i) 800x600 resolution the computer locks.

Any ideas?

I had this problem when using the original Elbox drivers.
Installing the latest drivers fixed that.

its due to LT4 I guess.. I have to wait until someone manage a bugfix or something..

I think I found the graphics corruption problem and I should now have working MediatorLT support. The kernel is currently being tested, and we'll make it available as soon as it is finished as a hotfix on the web page.

Have Elbox been in touch?
You can always use their drivers in the meantime.

I had bad luck... if i use the elbox driver the system lock up at startup..

That happens when you don't use the latest system drivers available from Elbox.
The latest version should have PCI.library 6.5

I don' t know if i do the right thing i installed amiga os 4.0 then the multimedia cd .. should i comment also the pcigraphic.card and 3dfxvoodoo.chip in the kicklayout ?.. if updating the MMCD should i install also the mediator system files before the latest MMCD files ?

I read somewhere that you should.
That doesn't correct the lockup problems though.
You need to be using the latest Mediator system files.

You only need the Mediator System files.
If you install the MMCD files, you get an error on bootup.
The error points to C:Soundplayer.

My assumption is that the AHI files overwrite the OS4.0 version with the OS3.9 version.

If that assumption is true, it is pretty straight forward to reinstall AHI for OS4.0 again.

Thanks have you tried to install also the others pci board like ethernet and soundblaster ?

Yes, ethernet card working.
Again the mediator system files were enough to get this running.

Not having much luck with the Terratec sound card just yet.

Now got USB working on a SpiderII using Poseidon.
Still to resolve sound issue and TV card.

The OS4 CD contains a fixed version of paula.audio (V4.33)

If paula.audio is overwritten by an older version other than the version on the OS4.0 CD, Then startup-sequence will appear to hang once soundplayer is opened, thats if playboot sound is checked in soundprefs and a sample is selected.
What as actually happened is that the old version of paula.audio (<4.33) has crashed.

Either comment out soundplayer from the startup-sequence or fix the problem by replacing the AHI files from the CD.

Last thing, after installing the mediator files have you commented " ; " the kicklayout file of 1200 ?

I assumed it was that it was related to the AHI installation (See my earlier post)
I also tested my theory and was proven correct.
Didn't know exactly where the problem occurred, so that could be useful in the future.

Ended up replacing the whole of the AHI package with one for OS4.0.
Which is obviously overkill now I know the specific file that needed to be replaced.

Still no joy with the Terratec card though.
I suspect the driver works only with 3.9.
Will get in touch with the creator and see if this can be confirmed or denied.

The TV card might be sorted if I can locate a TV GUI for OS4.0.
I assume there must be some, haven't had chance to look.

The two under 3.9 don't work for different reasons, neither of which I suspect is to do with card and drivers.

I did but don't think it made any difference.
Certainly does no harm as far as I can tell.

I think it was Rogue who suggested it should be done so I did.
