I'm having problems packing files with cranu. specifically with the "tar/gzip" and "tar/bzip2" options.

tar and gzip are both in the path, respectively in c: and SDK:c

typing "tar -czf newarc file2arc" in a shell returns

tar: Cannot open a pipe: device not configured

I'm using "GNUtar-1.11.8.lha" and "AmiGNUTar", got them from aminet.
GZip obviously from the SDK but no version information available.
gzip 198738 ----rwed 31-Mar-04 13:39:52

regarding the bzip2 option: the call from the cranu/profiles/tar.bz2.cranu profile is "tar -cjf %a %f" but neither "tar" nor "AMIGnutar" knows the "j" option..

ps.: archiving it manually does not work either, gzip reduces the pdf to 98% of original size, and tar destroys the archive..

any ideas?

thx

Why aren't you using tar from the SDK as well?

This may be a stupid question, but why aren't you using Cranu's GUI?

Cranu is a front end for commandline archivers. Apparently the tar.gz and tar.bz2 support needs the commandline tools from the SDK rather than other versions. He had the wrong ones in his default path, now he doesn't.

but it's possible to put the rigth path in cranu

I think it's better not copy commands, for shure
you forget what you have done when there is an update.

exactly.
but what's strange is that the commands were not called properly until I copied them from sdk:c to C: (the wrong tar I
the sdk assign is done on startup and AFAIK the path is set up correctly too.

It's great to see a happy ending.
