Moovid 1.7Beta

There is no mention of this on the Moovid site.
1.6 is the last version.
I came across it on Intuition database.

Came as part of Update 2 according to the site.
It is not on OS4 Classic AFAIK.

Can anyone shed any light?

A change to avcodec.library made it incompatible with MooVid V1.7.

Basically DvPlayer replaced Moovid,

DvPlayer is nice, but you most register to get full featured version, that support all the video formats.

I would have thought DVplayer was a replacement for RIVA also written by Stephen Fellner.

Moovid was written by L?szl? T?r?k .

Or are these two working together?

I'm having a few issues with DV Player.
I'm hoping these will be resolved when the new kernel for classics has been released.

This is a good question, maybe the author can release a 68k version if he think that there are no market for an OS4 version

Can't imagine there wouldn't be a market though.
Moovid was always very well optimised and ahead of the competion in terms of speed under 3.9.

Never seen it under 4.0 admittedly.

I think Laszlo left the Amiga market
Some time to time I was in contact with him, then he disappeared.

DvPlayer does not "replace" MooVId. We are good friends with the author of MooViD, and while he supported AVI/MOV formats in MooVid, I concentrated on MPEG formats with
RiVA, and later DvPlayer, and we did not want to rival each other's players :) Unfortunately he lost interest in the Amiga in the last few years, and development of MooVid halted. Since then I added support for the AVI format as we badly need a good native OS4 player which supports the most popular formats.

Comparing the speed of MooVId with OS4-native apps is useless, as moovid is still 68k and runs under emulation on OS4.

By the way Laszlo is still around, he still has his Amiga, in fact I think he has several Amigas, jut he is not active as a coder on Amiga at the moment.

Wasn't there a nativ Moovid included in Pre 2 or 3?

IIRC there was a version (not sure if it was PPC native) on the update #1 CD shipped with the ?A1-C, but not on the downloadable update #1 ISO, as the ISO file didn't include contributions.

It was not completely native, but only the decoder and some routines were compiled for PPC (avcodec.library and moovidppc.library, namely).

So now that there's no Moovid development, therefore no rivality, time to include MOV format to DVPlayer? Please? Por favor? S'il vous pla?t? Bitte? Per favore?

Many digital cameras use that format, it would be fantastic to be able to play it in DVPlayer.
