It seems I also need some non-standard font, Bitstream Cyberbit, which may be causing the problem, any ideas as to where this can be obtained.
I've included the link to it in the readme, but it's not required (unless you want to read for example chinese pages). I just tested it by removeing the Cyberbit font and OWB still works without problems here.

The core fonts (Arial, Verdana, Courier New, etc.) are more likely to cause problems since I made them, instead of the DejaVu fonts, the default fonts. There is no problem if they are not installed, in this case the DejaVu fonts are still used, but a broken installation might cause these problems.

Found the fonts on Win2000, installed the fonts, using typemanager in sys:system.

now I don't get any yellow guru errors.

It looks like OWB will crash if website uses a font that is not installed.

you have to download (now link removed) the core font archive ... overwrite your already installed arial, cyberbit, verdana .ttf fonts ... otherwise you will get that yellow alert and DSI

The UNICODEFONT font isn't used at all unless there are missing glyphs in the other fonts which isn't the case on sites like amigans.net, only for example on chinese, japanese, etc. pages, and even on such pages it doesn't crash if you don't have such a font, it just can't render most of these pages.

Try if it works after removing FONTS:Arial#?, FONTS:Courier New#?, FONTS:Times New Roman#? and FONTS:Verdana#? if you have any of them. Of course they are not required either, but if you do have them and there is something wrong with the installation it can cause problems. Or install them using my .otag files.

Everyone who gets crashes please run OWB from a shell and check if there is any output with font names, if started from Workbench version 1.10 doesn't print any warning and error messages any more.

They are available on sourceforge.net as well, check the readme in http://strohmayer.org/sfs/files/corefonts.lha
Make sure to set the font families when installing them yourself instead of using my .otag and .font files.

No, it doesn't. But it may crash if you do have the fonts but your installation of them is broken.

For me (A1 G4) it works pretty well, but most of the links are not clickable (the pointer doesn't change into a hand and cliks have no effect at all). It was that way already under 1.09, but it is now worst

how about supplying these fonts as some of us haven't got windows machines

That would be illegal.

Wouldn't it be better to use Amiga fonts that come with OS4 that we already have ? That would be perfectly legal and avoid too many downloads of third party files.

Or even better do what the other browsers do and let the user choose the ones they want from those we have available rather than relying on fonts from the Windows world which need to be downloaded.

That Cybit thing was about 6Mb in size and takes ages on a slower connection.

I am still getting the Reapers so there must be something else as well. SnoopDos shows those font related but I am sure I already have Arial and DejaVu already.

It does, if a font a page is using isn't installed OWB uses the DejaVu fonts included in AmigaOS4.

Quote:

It's not required.

Try if removing Arial, etc. (but not the DejaVu fonts) helps, unless you used the .otag files from my corefonts.lha. It doesn't need any fonts except for the DejaVu fonts included in OS4, but there seem to be problems with wrongly installed fonts.

Of course I don't get any of these problems here and don't know what the reason for the crashes is, if someone who gets the crashes sents me his Arial, Curier New and Times New Roman .otag and .font files I could try to find out what's wrong and fix it in the next version.

I have it reproduceable now, maybe you would like to take a look?

I have everything installed as per readme.

The first time (after a reboot) i start OWB (regardless if shell or icon)
it crashes with the aforementioned (by TiredofLife and Hans) crash.

Right after the GR window has popped up i start OWB again and NOW it
starts, without problems, without crashes, without recoverable alerts!

After a reboot, everything is back to "normal" - read, it crashes

I don't know the inner workings of OWB, but i suspect OWB tries to read
something which is created on startup (but not yet available) and
crashes.
The second start CAN read this "something" (because it was created on
start of the first instance) and starts up normally (maybe only some
little bugger in env?)

Could you give me an idea on where to look next?

start of the first instance) and starts up normally (maybe only some
little bugger in env?)

Could you give me an idea on where to look next?

Hi,

I can confirm the above, until doing the above I would get a ISI crash everytime I ram OWB. This would be even before the GUI would show up.

I have all the need fonts (even completely rebuilding my fonts directory.

I have 4 crash logs if anyone would like me to send them.

It appears there may be a problem with the ?newlib.library.kmod?.

Ciao,
Trev Daley.
