drawback for Amiga.

If the product sells then it?s not drawback at all for Amiga at all, I welcome any attempt to build any new Amiga?s, if fun or for commercial interests, the most important thing is that people are interested in Amiga stuff, and spend time on Amiga projects, software and hardware.

I think this projects fits in the fun category, and I can?t see how it can damage Amiga in anyway, drawback well maybe in your eyes but some one else might won?t to buy it, respect peoples choices.

a) It's probably not real.
b) If it is real they probably won't be able to license AmigaOS for it.
c) It would be more interesting if it had a PPC rather than a 68060 and ran OS4.

I think a new board which is largely hardware-compatible with the old Amigas, but has a PPC on it and runs OS4, has some sort of market.

But see (a).

If it's an 060 only in it's current form, then we're only talking OS3.9 at best. As far as I know 3.9 doesn't suffer the same license limitations as OS4. Kickstart might be a differnt issue though.

They can't advertise that it's running AmigaOS3.9,
they can't sell it whit OS3.9,
and they can't sell the kickstart rom whit NetAmi.

They are just using a loop hole, and they can probably do it the same way whit AmigaOS4 classic.

Hi LiveForIt,

Reply to post #27.

Assuming this is a product that comes out, NONE of the concerns of legality will stop ANYONE from getting precisely what they want out of this jewel. No way, no how, unless they're tied up and put in a jail cell for the next 50 years, so that they can't do it.

Lack of Rom, 3.0, 3.1, 3.5, 3.9, Arexx (license lapsed), narrator.device not there, etc., nothing will stop us.

With a low price, this could easily bring 500,000 people back!!!

What's the next logical step? When they're here (trapped, hehe), again, AOS4.x on PA Semi 64 bit dual core @ 2.6 GHz w 4 GB of ram!!!! Wooooohooooo!

The boards that should be available this summer will be aimed at developers and maybe very serious end users. For these types getting OS 3.x on it will not be a problem.

Hopefully some of these dev boards will be used for AROS developers so that if a consumer version ever appears it will not headache of dealing with Amiga Inc.

Hi Rob,

Why bother with AROS when the real McCoy AOS3.x is on there? Just tell AIDs it's sold with some version of linux, who cares if it can't boot up with it or not.

Has anyone read the detail on the website - the developer is intending to get PPC accelerators built for this unit when and if it reaches fruition.

The final version is supposed to have a CPU expansion slot, and PCI slots so there is potential there for OS4.

As for Kickstart - there are two ways around it - bundle a copy of Amiga Forever or put a legally bought Kickstart 3.1 ROM on the thing as there are tonnes still available if you look.

Hi,

@Fransexy
@orgin

I know the SoI he,he...
My example was to clarify that this site with the most OS4 users
and user that are Pro-OS4 are the best place to discuse such a thing.
On a troll site or a Retro site it is to much Emotions in it ..
But i think i have false thinking ...

@LiveForIt
@Fransexy

Please point me the benefit that OS4 and the Future development
of OS4 and OS4 HW become from this project ?

A 68060/100Mhz board with 16MB GFX RAM and an light expanded AGA custom-chip-set
with the maybe possibility to expand it later with an PPC-Co-CPU card ..
Mhhhh .. i think this i know everywhere ... but only with 060/50
and 2MB GFX RAM and Orginal AGA .. YES .. this is the Future.

The point for me between the Minnimig/A-Clone and the NATAMI is,
the NATAMI IS applied as the new Amiga <TM> !

The Clone-A/minnimig as replacement for the old classic machines.

And if this board come real or not ..
If in next time the SAM available, many user will wait, if the NATAMI come
and IF he come buy HIM and not the SAM [or any other modern Amiga]

So you stuck at the end with more 68k user with custom-chips [to low-level
custom-chips for today] or with many user in wait-state [the same as
with the AOne .. wait-wait--ups..no more available]

Hi R-TEAM,

Your post is a bit hard to read, but you are basically saying "buy NatAmi, and then we're cornering people into old, obsolete systems, that won't/can't use AOS4.0. This will stall/kill AOS4.x."

I can totally understand that fear. We're facing yet another split in the road, the LAST thing we could possibly want to happen.

But there are as many as 1,000,000 people that would LOVE those specs on the old Amiga!

Amiga was an underdeveolped machine. Period. Now it has a chance to REALLY show what it could have been.

Look, the ENTIRE operating sysem will use 3.6 megs of ram on boot up. Show me ANYTHING as useable with those stats....

Now combine with 100 MHz 060 and ONE HUNDRED times AGA!

ARE YOU KIDDING ME!

Superior computer on so many levels!

This will BRING people to Amiga again..... Where to go from when they get here? AOS4.x!

Hi,

YES - you have my fears brought on the point! ;)

And it is even if it it does not buy , if he wait then for NATAMI
and dont buy an OS4 computer [SAM or other] the drawback
for OS4 is impact.

Maybe i see this to "Dark" and only a handfull of people will
wait for NATAMI .... [but i dont think so]

Since I came here because of my wish to get back into beeing an active Amiga user beyond the cd32 i own, I was torn between the new and the old.

I think current 90s Amiga owners are those who will most easily jump onto the OS4. Someone without the heavy computer software requirements but still wants the performance of modern times. Returning guys like me who will use the computer to bring back the memories of old times will more easily choose something like the netami.

I have access to alot of old g3 and g4 macs, including g3 laptops and such (I work in an advertising agency) so if I could have had os 4 run on that I would be using it right now. Not only that, I would think alot more would adopt the os 4 if they could run on regular g3-g4 macs which are not hard to come by.

So make Amiga OS 4 run on g3/g4 macs and I will be using it right away.

Licensing the Operating System

Just like Cloanto licensed the ROM and operating system items, and several parts thereof, and add-on components that required independent licensing, it is well known that other parties licensed similar items, e.g. for limited use on specific magazine cover disks (e.g. CU Amiga in 1993, PC Intern in 1999, Amiga Plus and PC Magazin in 2000), or with game collections (e.g. the Amiga operating system up to 2.0x as licensed by the German company Epic Marketing, who became Runesoft GmbH), or for publishing the Amiga operating system (e.g. Village Tronic Marketing GmbH for "Amiga OS 3.1", Haage & Partner Computer GmbH for "Amiga OS 3.5" and "Amiga OS 3.9", Hyperion Entertainment VOF for AmigaOS 4.0), or for manufacturing entire systems (e.g. Escom AG, MS MacroSystem Computer GmbH now MacroSystem Digital Video AG, Tianjin Family-used Multimedia Co., Newstar Electronic Corporation, Rightiming Electronics Corporation, Regent Electronics Corp., Lotus Pacific Inc.)

To me that would seem natural as they are a rebuild of classic models.

Although I could see why people would argue the opposite.
