MUI Gadgets . . . (Updated)

I've tried several times to create gadgets for MUI, but the palette has always kicked my butt!

I've tried using other people's images as templates, but that hasn't helped.

I've searched the web for documentation to no avail. I didn't see anything in the developer archive either.

Does anyone have ANY (successful) experience painting MUI gadgets?

My solution (for now) is to limit myself to the 8 colors that I've been able to get MUI to display correctly (maybe that's all MUI can do?).

Anyway -- I've created a set of MUI arrow gadgets as a companion to the "skins" that are included in the AfA archive. Presumably these should also work with OS4.

Good work!

I am afraid the MUI is really limited to 8 colors...

I updated the archive -- painted a complete set of images & tweaked the palette a bit.

Interesting painting with only 8 colors (compared to what I'm used to).

I learned this lesson when I did the MUI update for the Classic release. It was a hard expiriance...

Any chance of some bigger images for those of us that have large monitors and/or bad eyesight?

Hi @klesterjr

I don't understand the discussion. The 'Gadgets' in OS4 are controlled in two areas: GUI and Theme Bitmaps.
"Dark OS" has the orange chrystal gadgets, so I don't understand the 8 color limit. Sorry, I don't what goes on in the emulated world.

@Snuffy

MUI gadgets and OS4 gadgets are totally different. MUI is far older and has to be compatable with OS3.x ECS/AGA screen modes where people often use 8 colour screens for speed.

On an unexpanded 1200, 600, 2000, 3000, 4000 etc with a pal monitor you're stuck to using 640x256 or 640x512 with horrendous flicker and 16 colours maybe 32 if you push it.
even using 128 colours on my 060/50 was horribly slow without a gfx card.

Until there's an os4 version of MUI4 we're stuck with the old limits, even with MUI4 I don't know if the limits will be gone and it'll use 24 or 32 bit gfx.
