Sapphire Radeon 9250 registers as 9200 under OS4

A friend of mine kindly sold his old Sapphire Radeon 9250 AGP card to me. I installed it into my AmigaOne and it works ok - however, PCIScan reports it as a Radeon 9200!

14 0x1002 0x5C61 ATI Technologies Inc M9+ 5C61 [Radeon Mobility 9200 (AGP)]

Can anyone explain what this means? Is Sapphire 9250 just a modified 9200? I went to Sapphire's web site but could not find any useful information. Search with Google brought a lot of related pages but none of them brought light to this issue.

Maybe the chip is the same, but the board has some improvments.. ?

9250 and 9200 are essentially the same but the 9200 has a 10Mhz higher clocked core.
The thing you should be concerned about is if your 9250 has a 64 or 128 bit memory controller.

edit.

Does PC scan show the card as an RV280 or RV280LX? The core code for the 9250 has the LX suffix according to info I got.

Most of the cards available here are 128bit. In what way should I be concerned?

No, I have only used PCIScan - will try out Ranger when I get back home.

@Rob
No idea about the memory controller bus width of the card - I'll try digging out some more info about that.

Ranger uses the same pci.ids file to identify cards that PCIScan does.

Radeon 9250 and Radeon 9200 are the same cards, the latter one is a re-release of the original Rv280 chipset with slightly altered parameters (memory/core clock etc). For all intent and purpose, the cards are the same - they have the same vendor and device ID and can only be identified by their subvendor/subdevice ID or the setup in the ROM.

From the programming side of things, any R[v]2xx card is identical anyway (with the exception of the original R200 aka Radeon 8500 aka Radeon 9100 which I never got to work reliably) so there is no problem about a card being listed as Radeon 9200 - the're the same cards anyway.

Hope this helps.

With 64 bit cards like the 9200 SE or the Radeon 7000, you will notice that 32 bit modes are a good deal slower than 16 bit modes.

Many thanks for the clarification. I bought the card for OS4.1, and hope this means I can use all of its features with this model

@all
One final question - I assume the M9+ is a sort of low power (mobility) version of RV280 - can anyone here clarify whether M9+ uses 64-bit or 128-bit memory controller?

That would really mean that running the micro A1 in 16-bit is probably a better idea.

My card sounds identical to yours and mine is 64-bit. I don't know if there is any way to tell directly unless you have the original packaging, and even then, who knows.

Radeon 9250 here too. I have to say, the picture quality (output signal) is definitely better than on both radeon 7500 and the radeon 7000 evethoug the latter ones where new when I bought them and this one is 2nd hand.
And WipeOut2097 flies!!

ranger lists my VGA and Display controller as RV280 (Radeon 9200 Pro) but also lists the graphics board as a Radeon 9250
so can I deduce that Ranger is more circumspect than Pciscan?
