Cpu's

Hi all,
Just recently helped out BillE with a reworked and upgraded cpu module (7457 1.26ghz), and he in turn sent me his old module in exchange (7451 800mhz).
I have had a second A1XE, non working, for nearly a year now and had tried everything to get it to fire up uboot with no result. But I have just tried BillE's old cpu module with it and it has fired up no problem.
Figure that one out!!!!!

Odd, especially considering I've worked on this machine myself - you sure the other CPU you had fitted and replaced on this board was fitted correctly?

Thanks for the help when I had kickstart/booting problems. It was solved by using better cooling on the CPU which then worked fine as you know.

I must admit to being flummoxed too why your CPU did not work in your A1 ?

Your CPU worked first time as soon as I plugged it into my mobo. As both worked here I expected that my 7451 probably wouldn't help you either. However, I am really glad though that for some inexplicable reason it does work and your A1 is up an running OS4.1 now

I am delighted with the 7457 which runs fine on my A1 - go figure. The extra speed makes everything a bit nippier especially IBrowse and of course GCC when compiling DU :o)

How is OWB on your 1.2GHz cpu? I am suffering with a 800MHz 750GX in my micro...I would love a speed boost.

yep it worked fine in my other A1.

OWB is still quite slow especially starting up.

IBrowse on the other hand absolutely flies !
