Anyone tried to get it tow work?

Actually the PPC version works quite well and far more stable than it behaved under WarpOS/OS3.9.
There is one drawback under OS4.1 though, the application based information requesters/settings windows and such are completely wiped from the fonts, read, there is no text whatsoever displayed in these windows/requesters.
It was displayed correctly in OS4.0.

What has changed since OS4.0 that made them break?
Can anyone shed a light please, AW is (yet) the only WP i can use...

Thanks in advance

I need to mention i have the 2.2 registered version and the latest wizard.library and i also need to mention that AW works, i can do whatever i want, except changeingthe settings or reading any of the requester contents (deleting the old settings file doesn't help either).

methinks it could be a font problem within AW, but me isn't sure

I have the same problem here with ArtEffect4. I hope that Alinea are able to release native versions in the not too distant future.

Well, that wouldn't help me much as the sources of AW were never transferred to Alinea. AW is dead as it is (in terms of development). I'd like to know if something can be done to "fix" this issue ... but i doubt there is

No idea, the only thing i know is that Haage&Partner did not give them away.
I emailed Alinea a while back about AW and iirc they said they did not get a reason from H&P on WHY they held back the sources ... i'd guess H&P don't have them either anymore ... not sure though

See my reply to Walkero here .

In Amigawriter, under settings/fonts I have the following directories:

FONTS:
Amigawriter:Fonts
CGFonts:

I also have automatically update fonts, and also use bitmap fonts selected.

CGFonts: is my own fonts dircetory, so that I did not have to re-install my fonts with each OS4 update.

I would first check your font assigns, and then your font install's.

I did that as the first thing i tried to change, nothing..

I have the exact same Font prefs but no matter what font i throw at AW it keeps ignoring it ... seems definitely like a broken font engine in AW (?)

Both AW and Arteffect4 work fine for me. I did an update install not a fresh install. Hope you get is sorted.

I have the same problem. If you copy the previous locale.library from OS4.0 you will have the ArtEffect and AW running again just fine. But I don't know if it causes any problem on the system. But then you can make changes on the fonts that those programs use. And might fix the problem.

I don't know when Amigwriter was written, but Raziel's comment about a broken font engine got me thinking.

When I updated from 4.0 to 4.1, to get the dropdown menus in Turbocalc, I copied across the following files:-

Sys:Fonts/_bullet/ Directory
Sys:Fonts/_bullet_Outlines/ Directory
Sys:Libs/ttengine.library
Sys:Fonts/ZEN/ Directory
Sys:Fonts/ZEN.font

Please, check whether you have them installed.

The Sys:Fonts/_bullet/ and Sys:Fonts/_bullet_Outlines/ directories are system folders used with compugraphic/intellifont fonts, but they are not on the OS4.1 CD. Some old programs (Amigwriter) may require them.

The other thing is the Sys:Libs/ttengine.library, this may also be required by Amigawriter.

On my system Amigawriter seems to function correctly, although it is not a program that I use a lot. "If it's not broke don't fix it" is a motto I apply to my Amigaone, so I don't really want to test this out myself.
So if one of you could try out either, or both, of the above suggestions to see if any, all, or none solve your problems.

I'm not sure if _bullet and _bullet_outlines will have any effect if you don't also copy bullet.library too. The new CG system fonts appear to have been redirected to use trutype fonts. Take a look at CGTimes.otag with a hex reader. It lists FONTS:_truetype/DejaVuSerif.ttf as the actual font to use. In early versions of OS4 the CGTimes.otag listed bullet & CGTimes.type as the files to use. It might be possible that some older programs need bullet.library to use their own CG fonts. However, if programs request CGTimes or CGTriumvirate they may end up with the system fonts that are redirected to use trutype fonts. The whole issue confuses me.

You might try copying over the _bullet & _bullet_outlines dirs as Swoop suggested. You might also try installing bullet.library with and without the above dirs to see what combination works.

bullet.library version 44.1 (01/05/1999) is included in the OS4.1 installation. So they should already have it, but I must agree with you that the font system on AmigaOS can be very confusing. It is difficult to know which font engine is, or should be, used to remain compatible with older programs.

I just took a second look and you're right. I do remember needing to copy it over with a previous version of OS4.

Thanks to both of you

Unfortunately fiddling around with those font dirs and the lib didnt do any good.
I sometimes got an empty requester right at the start which leaves me with pressing an empty button within and then silently refusing to load any further.
I have gone back to starting and using AW with no app fonts at all, at least i can still use and print formatted text ...
hopefully Cinnamon is soon in a useable state so i can ditch AW...

This still seems to be a font problame to me. Looking at my AmigaWriter fonts directory, I have the following fonts installed, by default I assume.

Compare with yours.

Also in icon/info my stack is set to 100352, maybe that is part of the problem?
