hi guys

i am new to os4, and in need of some help please.

i did have a dual booting hd that jurassicc setup for me back in march (many thanks) but my hd is now dead

i did make a complete backup of both os `s and setup a new hd exactly the same and copied them over , but to no avail.

i have decided to install 2 hd`s 1 for os3.5 & 1 for os4.0 classic

my sys p/tower bppc 060. med sx,fast ata111, 2x hd`s
& dvd & cd +rw`s

my question is, what is the best way to setup my hd`s for a dual boot sys using them as DH0 & HD0 plus there respective partions,

i have tried os3.5 as master HD0 prty 4 & oS 4.0 slave DH0 prty 3 & visa versa,
i got os4.0 to boot once ? now stays on a purple screen after second re-boot , sometimes on a red screen, disabling HD0 & booting from DH0

as i am not a computor wiz kid ( 57) your help would be most appreciated
many thanks
mike

ps if you need any other info ??

I did get your email. However I've been away on a training course in york.

In addition to your Work partition, create two boot partitions using the CD and Floppydisc.
Make them both bootable using the l:fastfilesystem of the CD. Eg: DH0 and HD0

Give one a higher boot priority in mediatoolbox, eg:

DH0: bootpri 2 or HD0: bootpri 3

Install OS4 on HD0.

You will boot into OS4 by default.

install 3.5 on the other partition, you might need to install 3.1 and a CDROM driver first.

Now its up to you which partition you wish to boot into by either setting boot priority in media toolbox or using the early start up screen.

As 3.5 and 3.9 require a reboot usually, it simpler to set 3.5 as your default OS and use ESS for OS4.0, unless you want to get into scripting to move assigns around.

You'll probably need to add a line to your OS4 kicklayoutfile to force OS4 to boot from its partition if it has a lower boot pri than 3.5

A1XE, A1200T, X1000, X5020, CDTV, CD32 , A500+ A500
OS4.1b / OS3.2b

@Jurassicc
i am now using 2 x hd`s , ( not 1 hd as before)
what i have done, os3.5 on mstr HD0 pri 4, and os4.0 on DH0 pri 3, slave,

i have tried to edit the 1200kicklayout file , but, the up & down arrows donot work ?

ie press up arrow, i get qwertyui/
press down arrow i get 1234567890/ while they move the files around ??? (QUIT quickly ) phew

does this soumd like the os hasnt installed properly ?

i will install os 4.0 again and see what happens.

if ok, what exactly do i type, and is there anything else i need to install/change ?
apart from the fast ata111 files ?
do i need to install my bppc 60 disc files?? or does os4 not need them?

thanks, mike
