ethernet cards
Just popping in
Just popping in

Hi everybody, I'm new to this form I hope someone can help me. I have A4000 with a quicknet card. The it has a BNC connection and I would like to convert it to an RJ45 or modify and add a RJ45 connect.

Is there anyone that has a circuit diagram for such modifications or does anyone has a spare ethernet card for sale ?

Regards

Vic

Don't modify it, buy a converter instead. It's cheap and you won't accidentally destroy your card...

You want a BNC to RJ45 Media convertor.
Also known as 10Base2 to 10BaseT media convertor.

You probably find that a new media convertor is more expensive than a new x-surf network card.

If your network card has an AUI connector (15PIN D Presentation) a AUI to RJ45 transceiver is a cheaper option than converting BNC to RJ45.

Another option is to get a HUB with RJ45, BNC and AUI presentations. These can be sourced for around ?20

Router-->HUB-->BNC to A4000

Router-->HUB-->RJ45 to other modern devices on your LAN.

A1XE, A1200T, X1000, X5020, CDTV, CD32 , A500+ A500

@Jurassicc

You are right, I must rethink how cheap that media converter is. Hub is much better solution, probably lower priced and you can build up a LAN with it. Better choice for sure. I doubt that a new X-Surf would be really cheaper.
