I'm getting freezes when I use IBrowse. There is no GR just everything freezes on screen and a warm reboot doesn't work, I need to use the reset button on the tower.
The memory seems fine, I've copied to the ram disk till it's full (removed SWAP partition for the tests) upto 10 times and deleted 10 times it all out (WB toolbar doesn't seem to reflect this either, always seems to stay at the last reading (whatever is left when it fails to copy the next file) and avail flush doesn't update it either) again, mixed the information too.
Am I missing something?
The SAM shouldn't just freeze I wouldn't think, any suggestions out there?

java doesn't worry me too much I use IBrowse with it disabled, only turn it on when I absolutely must
thanks for the insight

I found that the ppc javascript library had bugs, so I reverted to the 68k one. But it never crashed, it just displayed information on some websites wrongly, like on maxx.co.nz.
Yes the pointer freezes too. And yes, I noticed some java library version from IBrowse is disabled in JIT? for probably similair reasons?
thanks for an alternative

IBrowse sometimes locks up on my A1XE when I first run it, but a warn reset fixes it. Most of the time it runs fine.
I do find this at times too but I'm still thinking it just shouldn't freeze; especially when you've selected more than 5 files to download simaltaneously

Have you tried OWB and/or NetSurf? They are both still beta and have some features missing but they are usable.
And yes, used OWB3.4, strangely enough I don't recall that ever crashing as of yet, hats off to our man on that job
Haven't tried Netsurf as of yet, got quite a few things to do and install and trying to read 'beginning in C' by Ron House at work
thanks for the comments

I guess ya mean the actual main program? I was going to try out a few things there also since java library is disabled by default. I've added IBrowse too while it's already running... we'll have to see how it goes
while we're on the subject has anyone else added more things to there default lists to enable other programs to be more stable or actually very stable aftwerwards?

Same reason I've always used Amigas, if you don't support it it disappears
but the more practical answer is, OWB can't download yet and I do alot of downloading and I haven't had time to look at NetSurf

I only have the IBrowse javascript disabled in JIT. IBrowse seems quite stable on my SAM440 system (although I am a beta tester and might have some more up to date files?)
However, I can confirm that OWB and Netsurf (AmicygnIX) work fine also.

I will see if actually disabling the main executable has any affect. No harm in trying.
I've noticed that when the image cache in IBrowse becomes about 200megs full (Remember I have say 415megs free after a fresh boot) opening other applications (even say DirOpus and generally over top of the Ibrowse window; haven't tried shrinking IBrowse first) causes the system to respond VERY sluggish like and at times you think it's frozen and will crash. Emptying the cache provides the remedy.
And yes, updated files are usually a good thing, I'll PM my email later
@PulsatingQuasar yes, I understand that.

Its also possible that your are just seeing the bug that seems to result in lockupds under OS4.1 with compositing enabled. So you may want to try disabling compositing and see if that fixes your lock up problem with IBowser.
The sluggishness is probably the pager kicking in, presuming you have a swap partition which is unavoidable (of course, none of IBrowse 2.4's memory is swapable). There is an "issue" with OS4.1 in that it will lock up when running low on ram. A smaller image cache may be advisable in order to help avoid the problem. This is not an IBrowse bug (I get the problem with AWeb and OWB, and practically anything else that starts to exhaust available ram).
Thanks very much for the reference material! Sounds like a few little tweaks and I'll be enjoying the good life again. I do like the compositing effect though, but like anything, it takes some time to merge different strains of the same group together without a single hiccup.
