Printing

I guess to have reliable printing under AmiCynix one needs a PS Printer? Since you can only select file pdf? and PS.

The Espon Stylus Colour CX7300 I hacked together to work seems to print for the most part okay but there is gaps between some letters and some letters are so close they might as well be ontop of each other.

Not a real biggy since getting a proper printer (which is high on the list of things to do) is the obvious solution...

any other things one can tweak however? I'm starting to think if I did save it out as a pdf and printed it out via wb4.1 that might solve the problem

thanks for any suggestions anyway

You can print the pdf/ps with AmiPDF/AmiGS with every printer that has a OS3/4 Driver.

The funny thing is the saved pdf has the same erros that are printed from within AmiCynix

guess it's a transfer thing

Unix apps are always using the PS format for printing. So I decided to use Ghostscript to print documents under AmiCygnix. Ghostscript is part of the OS4 installation.

And here comes the trick: AmiPDF and AmiPS are also using Ghostscript for this and so you will get the same result. Hard to say, which program works incorrect - Ghostscript or the AmiCygnix app. You could try to print the PS document on windows?!

I did examine the output file to see if there was any embedded artifacting type thing... all clean...

AmiPS/AmiPDF won't print via GS on my current printer setup... I don't blame the software just the hack for the printer... I'm living with it

going to look at PS printers tommorrow... try not to spend too much

@Ricossa

that is good to know, hoping PS will solve this problem too?

thanks for your replies!

Edit:
The correct driver is stcolor.
...removing irrelevant b/s due to initial overlooking of the stcolor's presence in gs' output)...

Afaik, gs with -sOUTPUTFILE=par: will produce correct stylus color output into parallel port (did it with A1200 once)
The problem is if the printer is usb one. Dunnoh what to put intead of par:
Worth a try (stick one page only into the tray and prepare for grabage in the printout).
The command is :

gs -dQUIET -dBATCH -dNOPAUSE -sOUTPUTFILE=par: -sDEVICE=stcolor somefile.ps

I hope this helps.
Jack

You don't need to have a PS printer to print with AmiCygnix/Ghostscript!!!

This is the command I use in AmiCygnix (lpr):

Sys:Utilities/Ghostscript/gs -sDEVICE=amiga_printer -dBATCH -dNOPAUSE -filename-

You see, that I use the amiga printer device. So if you are able to print with other apps using the systems printer driver, it should work.
