Audigy 2 NX Compatible with Amiga OS4.1

Whilst I'm waiting for my SAM440ep and OS4.1 to arrive (it's going to be some time!) I was digging through old hardware and found a Audigy 2 NX that I used to use with my laptop.

2 questions:

1. Will it produce better sound than that built into the SAM440ep?

2. Is it compatible with Amiga OS4.1?

On the Amiga Micro and Amiga OS 4.0 i used a sound blaster Audigy and it worked if they use the same chip i think this one should work without problems

Most Live/Audigy use the "same" chipset, but NX is USB and uses a totally different chip.

When buying a Soundblaster check if it has emu10k written on it and it should work fine in AOS.

even if hs card was pci it wouldn't work, Audigy2 uses "EMU10K2" or "EMU10K2.5" and thus won't work.
(and i didn't know, the usb version lacks a DSP...).

Out of interest, do any USB sound solutions work with OS 4.1?

Currently, no. There are no USB Audio device drivers.

OS4 seems to lack the USB audio standard which would make most usb audio cards work.

Well, there are kind of USB audio drivers...

I use USB audio under 4.0 on my A4000 / Deneb USB, using Poseidon as my USB stack. So there are drivers which work under 4.x, but unfortunately the only drivers that support the USB Audio don't support the USB chipsets on the Amiga One/SAM 440, and the USB chipsets are only supported by the 4.x USB stack which doesn't support USB audio.

In other words, USB audio is out for anything other than a classic - on anything else you can have the USB driver and no audio driver, or the audio driver and no USB driver, but not both.

I see! I guess I should pray that somebody somewhere eventually releases a compatible set of drivers for USB and Soundcards for the SAM!

What about the sound support with the Deneb? At least I had a USB sound card working on OS 3.x with my Deneb....so it should work on OS4, too?
