Instant messaging

Wanted two try some alternative solutions for instant messaging as my Sabre MSN 0.40 keeps on crushing @ 4.1 / SAM ?not always but almost always-. So I tried those programs:

JabberWacky: Is it possible to connect it on my MSN account? How? It asks for a username and password, seems not to recognize my @hotmail.com account and pass, need I a special Jabber account to work with it?

Is there any guide of how the prog works and if it supports MSN?


Epistula: Author?s site is dead, downloaded the version found on Os4Depot ?same on as Aminet-. It seems that some special plugins are needed for an MSN account to be activated. The plugin folder is empty, can not find anywhere in the software any setting to pass my msn account ?just for the case I have misunderstood that plugin stuff is needed-, can not do absolutely nothing after I start the software.

So is there any link to those MSN plugins?

Any other alternative solution for instant messaging on 4.1?

That is entertaining.

I have used SabreMSN and left it on without using it, on standby, and no system crash from it to date.

The only occasional system crash I get from a program, is IBrowse itself when it is loading a site, from time to time.

What version SabreMSN do you have?

0.41 fixed a serious bug.. or at least helped..

- Fixed a crash when opening tabs. Sometimes when doing nick name string
copy, the destination buffer wasnt large enough, and the source buffer
was filled with junk. I havent yet determined why it was full of
junk, but when it happens it will no longer crash.

Hi Sabre MSN is working flawlesly here 4.1 A1XEG4 fantastic program even the nudge function works i dont have that on my mac yet

Epistula is unstable with some hardware/software combos.
The plugin needed should be included in the package.
The author is working on a new version at the moment which seems very stable.

There is also Pidgin for AmiCygnix

Surprised to hear you're having problems with SabreMSN crashing.
I also have Sam and 4.1, no problems here.
Provide Jahc with the crashlog, I'm sure he can help.

Are you running anything else when it crashes?

Hello to everyone and thanks for the useful answers.

Well I am using SabreMSN version 0.40 that crushes with OWB ?OEM version provided with 4.1 CD-. At last those are the progs that I work all the time, I will get back to you with a crush log as far as I return home.

I will check 0.41 thanks! I will also download Jabber again from the new given link and re-check, hope to make it work with MSN. As far as Epistula, I downloaded both from Amintet ad Os4Depot the epistula_install.lha but the folder plugins is empty.

ps. On MorphOS Sabre works fine. Why there is not a native version? I remember that there was one....

Possibly the plugins were for other protocols only.
MSN probably works without a plugin.

I would wait anyway for the updated version of you wanted to use Epistula.

I still have high hopes for 0.41 ver of Sabre, if it works fine it will be my main MSN messanger on 4.1 like Wookichat is my main IRC prog on all my Amiga systems!

Had a look at the OS4depot version and can't find any plugins either.
The version I used originally was an OEM version that came with OS4.
That had the required plugins.

0.42 seem to be more stable, it had just one crush so far and this one after I open OWB -OEM version-. In the next crush I will svae all the details and post screenshot and / or text in here.

Got some more newbie questions?

How do I change the contacts background color to white? -like it is on the site's screenshots-. Have played with MUI setting a little but no result.

Is there a way to bring on the screen the SabreMSN logo -like the on the site's screenshots-?

How do I use the SabreMSN .nfo icon provided on the packag?. If I right click the prog icon, select informaiton and drag n drop the icon to change the default icon of the executable it uses the standar icon for PNG -the one with the eye-.

Sorry about such a quesitons I am still finding my way to 4.1.

Please use latest 0.42 version of Sabre and please do install latest OWB and then tell us if you get the crashes. I know some older OWB installations gave me crashes but latest versions nope... runs fine :D

The icon quesiton deals with my trying to change the program's icon and put the one you are providing in the icons sub directory. I just drag and drop the new icon upon the old -after have selected informaiton from the icon menu by right clicking- but it does not change.

Maybe I should install a plugin in 4.1 that handles PNG icons correctly....
