Why dont you add a story to explain to the people
what you see in those photo's. For me they are just
two photo's of the sky.

The first one gives me the expression that our atmosphere
is very thin and that we must save and preserve it.

The second one goes in to the same direction as you
can see a trail from a plain polluting that nice blue sky.

And yes i am an ex-greenpeace activist.

Just my toughts.

Now that i have looked at the photo's a few times i
think i can see the link why they are importend to you.

In both the photo's you have a special light effect and
as you are a believer you connect that to the phrase
i saw in the blues brother movie "do you see the light".

Well, i must say that i have seen a few times the light
but also the dark side of live and my conclusion is that
we must go true live and try to make the best of it.

Dirk.

I think they're both quite awesome pics, especially the first one. No explanation needed, IMO.

?Angel Rays?, as Outcast describes it, is one of my favorite weather phenomena, and if I can happen to have my camera ready to photograph it, it's like, ?Oh Man! That's beautiful!? even if it's subtle, like in this case.

In the second photo, if you look closely, you can see that there was a faint halo around the sun, and at one point, that halo intersects with a cloud, to wondrous effect. I'm not certain, but I think that it's known as a sun-dog. It's a fairly rare phenomenon, as it requires the presence of unseen high clouds, their ice crystals acting like a prism, and lower clouds through which, at certain points, I guess the sunlight passes with some amplification, because it's not only coming directly from the sun, but also by way of the prismatic effect in the high clouds. So when the light from the halo intersects a lower cloud that is also being illuminated by the sun that piece of cloud will naturally be brighter than the cloud around it. But, in any case, it's a wonder-inspiring effect.

Indeed. Some scenes simply take your breath away, both visually and mentally.

I took a couple with my cameraphone not long ago.

unfortunately as I was driving I couldn't focus or anything (for obvious reasons) ... just point it in the general direction and hope.

Aah, thanks, now i understand better the effect on the
second picture and it seems very rear like you discribe it.

Angel rays he, thats a nice name for it.

I know another one that we use here in belgium, but i
am not sure what it is cald in other country's.

When the sun shines and there is a rainbow and it also
rains then we call that "'T is kermis in de hel" what could
be translated as "it's village-fair in hell". That is not meant
in an negative way but is just said when they see that event.

I have seen that several times in my live so it must not be that rare.

Awesome, Outcast! You've got a good eye, a good hand, and apparently a good camera, too.

I believe in the Divine Trinity myself....

My interpretation of these "natural phenomina" is..

We live in a techo-babbleised world where everything has to have a clinically explained reason.

A Techno-Light so to speak...

Except that light is always so dark & fuzzy.

Every now and then... The Angels give us a reminder just what real, glorious light is like.

"Angel Rays"

And I view it with awe

And feel so....

Humble.

That's what I was thinking. I spent 5 minutes studying them and I still can't see a UFO anywhere!?!

I must say that was very selfish of you to take a photograph whilst driving a vehicle. It appears that you were behind the whell of a Heavy Goods Vehicle at the time, the amount of damage to the God given precious life of others (and yourself) that could have been caused were you to lose control of the vehicle..... Too horrific to even consider.

Sorry, I know this is OT, but inconsiderate dangerous driving is a subject very close to my heart as I lost a loved one due to an idiot who thought he was more powerful than God when he was driving.

ssolie: I understand where you are coming from but please take that to PM with Outcast if you two want to discuss it any further. Thanks!

During the last several months I have taken the habit of wearing my camera on my belt while I'm at work. Part of my job includes work on the shipping dock. That is where I was when I got the two photos in this thread. In November, I was "driven" to take my afternoon break outside. While I was out there I was looking around for photos. One of the finest I've found in a long time became ?Evergreen Candle?, which can be viewed as part of the ?Christmas Card? in this thread. The other photo in the card was taken while I was on injury leave in 2005. I managed to cross some railroad tracks and get right down on the banks of the Mississippi River just by the southern-most portions of the St. Louis area in St. Louis County, Missouri, USA. While there I noticed a refridgerator-sized boulder laying on the bank of the river. I climbed up on that boulder, and began taking pictures of the sunrise on that April day. The whole time, I was looking over my shoulder, waiting for the Cops to come and get me (for crossing the tracks?they had been roped off with metal cords), but they never did. After taking the pictures, I safely got back across the tracks, to my van, and the photos to my computer.

I just got this one today. It has been deliberately gamma-corrected quite dark for effect.

Yeah, the tree stump came in handy, too, didn't it? It looks like buildings to me.

EDIT: I just realized that I got the reference wrong in the photo. It should be John 1:5, not John 1:9.

EDIT2: Fixed the reference. Reload the page to update your caches.
