Backing up DVD's with SAM?
Just popping in

I'm loving using my new SAM :)

I've been downloading a few programs to allow me to backup a DVD video and then burn it to a fresh disc. But, I've not had success yet...

What software/combinations of software are you using that works?

To copy a video dvd you may need to DeCSS it.
http://www.os4depot.net/index.php?fun ... =video/misc/peevobill.lha

Then you need to create a UDF-Image from the files.
http://www.os4depot.net/index.php?fun ... =utility/misc/mkisofs.lha

Then burn the udf-image with AmiDVD.

@ALL :

There is a simplier way to do this.

Simply copy the 2 drawers (AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS) of the DVD on your harddisk, launch Frying Pan, drag'n'drop the 2 drawers in the first window of Frying Pan (disk image constructor) and click on Write.

If the DVD is encrypted / protected, I don't know if it works but I have done this with many original DVD and all of it works.

That's all ;)

For informations, video dvd has no special format.

In fact, the only special thing needed for a video dv is the 2 drawers AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS to be present on the DVD.

Video DVD are sipmply normal DVD with these 2 drawers in it, nothing more.

The DVD must use the UDF filesystem.

Thanks! Just tried the first method specified (PeeVOBill -> mkisofs -> AmiDVD) and it worked just fine. Mkisofs threw up some errors (complained that the specified directory couldn't be found), but created the image anyway. It was called CDROM by default, but I see on the man page that there's an option -V to specify a volume name. Still played in my DVD player and DVDPlayer worked as well.

I don't think the direct copy method would work with CSS encrypted DVDs. I think you'd need PeeVOBill to copy them to your HD first.
