I have a printer connected to a Linux box runnig cups. I have been unable to print to this printer using Olaf Barthel's lpr.device. I get an error message that says "Cannot connect socket (connection refused)" Has anyone succesfully printed to a printer on another machine on the network?

Yes I used this device without any problem, can it be a firewall problem ? Can another computer on the network print to this same printer ?

or access permissions are mis-configured (unpublished printer?).
I use lpr.device with network printer, so that's doesn't help you.
Did you set the lpr.device into "raw" mode for socket printing? (otherwise it'll fallback to lpr that requires lpd server to be installed).

Yes, I'm using lpr.device to print to a postscript laser. Used to be a Konica/Minolta, now it's a Xerox phaser. But the printer is connected to my router, not to another computer. So it's probably a bit more complicated for you.

Firewall is off. Other hosts on network print using Samba.

I am trying to configure using raw. I need to check the permissions.

If other hosts are printing using Samba then I don't think lpr will be of any use for you :/ Saddly that means you'll have to either find a way to also have this printer shared via Unix lpr protocol either try to nag Olaf enough that he will add printer support into AmigaSamba (which I doubt you'll manage to)...
